This video is on a german computer games magazine page called GameStar.

Unbelieveable graphic engine. I love the ability to enter every planets atmosphere.
Make sure to watch the whole video. It's worth it.

Maybe this is the future of space simulations as we know it.

Yeah Infinity looks awesome, but i think that trying to do something like that with Freelancer would take years of work. And the computer requirements to play it would be rather high.

Though, from playing the Combat Prototype, it has almost the same combat and ship flying style as Freelancer (i.e. ship is controlled with the mouse in almost the same style, plus combat is almost identical to combat in FL). Its one game that i am actually excited about.

This would make my computer throw itself in front of a bus.

I suspect it would ruin a few others out there as well, but it is beautiful.

Baffling, even ridiculous large gameplay world! Certainly looks good!
Do want.

My PC would immediately die when I start that Game :laugh:Shame I will never be able to play new Games. Sure it looks awesome, but I honestly don't want to see the Borders of Game and Reality fade away.

Now this is what the makers of Elite were probably dreaming of. Massive open world where you can be whoever you want to be and share the experience with others.
Just my theory on open-world speceship games:
  1. Elite,
  2. Frontier: Elite II,
  3. Elite III,
  4. Wing Commander,
  5. Freelancer,
  6. X,
  7. Infinity: Quest for Earth

Quote:I want this for FL ! Now!

I understand what you mean. But wanting this for FL is like wanting everyone in here to understand Newtonian Physics. It's not impossible but it would require a lot of effort to take a leap forward.

I hope that at some point in time Freelancer's physics engine will be viewed as ridiculous, because it's so far from reality. I hope I'll live long enough to witness that moment. If you want real immersion, not just to fool your vision, graphics aren't enough and the essence of the environment itself will have to be right as well. We can do all that with our eyes closed. We could have done that before computers existed. Dreaming and fantasy shouldn't degrade into deliberately distorted illusion. That's like doing drugs.

Freelancer was made to be simple.

I have been watching this for quite some time now (probably more than 2 years). It's nice to see they made a new video. I was kinda giving up hope, since there wasn't happening all that much. This game still has a very long time to go, probably years. I hope the engine is not outdated by then.

Rendering tutorial is up and running again:
