Hey mates...
a few weeks ago i tested a server (i will not call the name), on this server there were some capital ships without guns and turrets... this ships just had Missile Turrets, when they were firing it just looked beautiful... so my question, why arent there Missile Turrets which are just as good as normal turrets are? Maybe with more damage but also a higher reload time...
Furthermore i saw another thing on the Server... in mission 1 in vanilla fl you can see a prison liner with some fire effects, why cant we add them to our modded ships? so wehen any cruiser or BS got less than 30% there are coming these fires...
Missiles are somewhat problematic if you take the server performance into account. It only needs one lag spice and all the energy you used to fire those missiles will be wasted as they won't be locked on target anymore.
However, It would be glad to have fast missiles (500-700 ms) that don't track and thus work like beam weapons, only with a cooler war head and sound. Ammo could of course be used too, but that's a balancing thing that's not worth going into right now.
What he's talking about arent exactly proper missiles. this was an idea that i had brought up a long time ago, and was played around/tested with on the dev forums before the idea was deemed not worth the effort (which was the right call, imo).
those of you who are familiar with the BSG mod, would know what this effect is like- its basically, you take a bs turret (like a liberty bs primary turret), duplicate it, and for the projectile + explosion, you give it a missile projectile + smoke, and explosion effect, so it looks like you're chain firing dumbfire'd missiles, even though in essence the projectile is still an energy turret.
It wasnt the BSG Server and it was a Missile which was following its target, but i think your idea is even better, just let the weapons look like missiles...
