I just thought, maybe it is possibel to get, like the lights, your personal Color sheme on your ship, for example changing the color of the Red parts of an Royal Liner to Blue,Green,Pink and so on.Make it cost some creds.
You may could ask for what we need them...in my opinion it could be a element for RP,for example a Player decides that his char would like a Pink fighter.I mean in FL Universe there should be some color on the bases to paint a ship with personal signs and so on.
Well it's just an idea, love me for it or kill me for it
Oh and the question is of course,is it possibel from server side ?
It's not possible as far as I'm aware. It can and has been done in some games (ie left 4 dead) but I presume Freelancer is too old for that. Requires a texture mask or something (I forget what it's called) that increases the size of textures dramatically, but lets you use that texture in almost any colour imaginable. I believe it tints the texture, not recolours it, though. But again, don't think this is possible with Freelancer.
Yea, probably not possible for individual ships, the best I could see happening is changing the skin for a specific model, (Most likely on a client side basis.) Which would mean all the ships using that model would still look the same anyway.
Its just not really possible within Freelancer game mechanics, unless players were to have their own ships. Which would mean a LOT of stations and models. and ALOT of work. Not going to happen though.
One way I thought of implementing it is for:
Eagles to use the same tech as cargo pods, only instead of cargo pods, it would be a visual hull "strapon".
You would have various colours for various purposes.
We can already choose the differently coloured Train Cargo pods. I see no reason why it couldn't work with other ships.
Sovereign Wrote:Seek fun and you shall find it. Seek stuff to Q_Q about and you'll find that, too. I choose to have fun.
It IS possible, but would increase the size of the mod MASSIVELY.
Every single ship would need to be re-exported as a new name with new textures each with unique names (So for the Eagle, it would now be called the EagleR in the files), and each of the textures would need to be copied over as new names with an R on the end.
So for every new colour you want, you increase the size of the mod by every ship again. Add in 3 or 4 colours and you've added quite a bit onto the mod size for not a great addition.
I am trying to implement a new ship buying system (Used Eagles with lower hull strength, Damaged Sabres with one gun a lower level, old GB with reduced powercore etc for less money) in my spare time, but I have so much to do it's not really a priority at the moment.
