Once upon a time, anyone could go out to a 'minable' field, shoot some rock and come back with a hold of <insert minable item>.
Then the idea was put forward that people flying Mining vessels should get bonuses and a lot of people went
'What a good idea, it will increase RP, let us do this.'
And so it happened that new 'mining' turrets were made and these could be mounted on fighters and transports and it was good...... for the people with the correct ID's and ships, for they did receive 'bonuses' and they were happy.
The people who didn't have the correct ID's and ships didn't get 'bonuses' but they were happy for they could still mine, although at a slower rate.
The fact that this has been done is great, but for some reason places that used to be minable are no longer minable, despite the fact that they appear as mineable areas on the maps.
As an example, the 'Silverton' and 'Copperton' fields in Colorado. Yes, it states that they are 'depleted', but it also says that there is still some life left in them, just not 'commercial' quantities.
You used to be able to go to those fields and mine silver/copper, not very quickly mind you and it was only every second or third rock that produced an item, but it was something.
I'm just wondering why the various fields that used produce silver/copper etc as well as some of the 'hidden' fields like the silver field in Pennys are no longer minable with even a mining turret?

Because mining is controlled server side, and the Admins like to mess with the minds of miners. Or because some in-rp actions by miners and other players changed the status of the fields.
I tend to believe scenario 1. It shows the Admin team really cares about the players. I mean, if they didn't care, why mess with the players minds. On the other hand, it can also be used as proof that the Admin team all has become infected by Nomad incubi, and are trying to control Sirius, by making the economy go to hell, inflation rise, and prevent the people of Sirius from prospering enough to become an utopian society where all is at peace and no one needs to want for anything. But thats another theory, which really needs an ample supply of industrial strength tin foil, before it is investigated.

Now I think it is time for a beer.

Oddly enough, I could almost believe that.
