ID & IFF can be a real pain in the ***. I had a BH that Had BH ID & IFF, but I get stopped a couple of days later and asked what is a Gaian Terrorist doing here? I ask what? And it turns out my IFF got reset (no idea how or why. I had only done BH quests in shikoku!)
Got to keep remembering to check my IFF every day to see if it changes. It can cost a fortune to lower reps to get the IFF you want, especially for a new character. And doing that is totally OORP, the same as using bribes to gain rep is if you are a lawful character.

Quote:Chat-board peeking I'd not do it unless you're in a freighter or cap. ship bigger than a Gunboat, or unless it's your guard system. However, call it monitoring system-wide comm signals, e.g. "Their comm. signal's still within the Bering area. They must be somewhere around here."
That's metagaming, pure and simple. If a message isn't addressed to you then you don't know.
And I don't want to hear, "Well, we have agents all over" as a reason to validate the metagaming.

I think you'll find he means the ingame chat menu, but at any rate, it's still metagaming.

Besides, if someone's talking over system-wide channels, it's well within RP to realise they're still in-system.
Yes, but that's a different case. Looking at the playerlist and going "Signal indicates x is in system y" is metagaming, them broadcasting over system - is not.
