Hi,

I'm running Freelancer on a somewhat old computer. I encounter graphic issues during the first cinematic and in the main menu. The screen just turns black for a moment, then the cinematic comes back, but freezes (for the cinematic, it always happens at the exact same scene).

System info:

Windows XP Pro
Antivirus: avast! Antivirus
Videocard: Radeon 7000 Series
Direct X 9.0c

I'd also add that I have the same "freezing screen" problem with other games (as Medieval: Total War).
I'm quite sure the problem comes from my videocard, but could it be DirectX 9.0c? I'd appreciate help from anyone who had the same problem or knows how to solve it.

Thanks,
Britonix

Your GPU is quite old, and I wouldn't rule out a misbehaving driver with no fix because the card has passed it's End Of Life, in effect getting no new updates.

If you don't have the latest GPU driver, I suggest you get it. Otherwise, the only thing you could do is scavenge the second-hand market for an nVidia series 6XXX GPU (6600 GT with 128MB of VRAM for example).

I assume during large battles your FPS drop to unplayable levels, am I correct?

Thanks for answering, but I managed to fix it and am now playing. =D

In fact getting the the latest driver is the logical solution but that latest driver was the problem. Instead of installing a 2006 driver, I got a 2003's older version, then the game worked perfectly.

Compatibility... again and again... oh Windows...

But thanks for your response.
