The USS Brattain (NCC-21166) was an X-shuttle-class science vessel, constructed by the Five Moons Consortium Xenoarchaeological Division at 40 Corinth A Livadia Construction Yards and commissioned on stardate 43158.5.
It's sensory systems were manufactured at Sunderland Research Station, and it's propulsion and life support systems were designed by a hand-full of Border World scientists.
During the mid-790's, the Brattain had a crew complement of thirty-five (not including 2 exo-comps), among which included Captain Dana Fredricks, her first officer Commander Moita, and (former Bounty Hunter) science advisor Pavel Terrell.
In mid-797, the Brattain mysteriously disappeared. It was re-discovered by the Democritus-Apollon, following a distress call sent twenty-eight days earlier.
While scanning for the lost ship, a feedback pulse from the nebula caused the Apollon to be neutralized, and had to continue on reserve power. A boarding party from, the then skeleton crew of the Apollon (it was being re-fitted at the time), was able to dock with the Brattain to investigate.
The ship was found to be trapped in a Mahnmut Nebula near an uncharted binary star system in Omicron-93. An investigation discovered all but one of the ship's crew died under circumstances of violent bone-crushing seizures and homicides, determined to be caused by severe sensory deprivation from a lack of REM sleep.
Recently I, captain of the BorderWorlds_Patrol8472 vessel, was told, by a Corsair, that he noticed the ship was near Syros station. His search turned up nothing. His search lasted for almost 30 minutes and the bogie NEVER left his radar. Strange.
Though we suffered severe damage to our engines, our largest ships were able to retrieve the USS Brattain; reprogramming it's navigation to stop in Rheinland for a few vital automated repairs, lead it to New York, and commence repairs on the remainder of the systems. Since our large shgips had sufered to much damage to escort it, they could not follow or tow the USS Brattain.
Witnesses, which included ships of Orbital Spa & Cruise, reported receiving the automated system-wide distress call from our ship, and even seeing it dock in New York.
We cannot express how we feel at recovering this historical ship of ours.
Though some in the TSC have expressed that the ship should be decommissioned after so many decades, it was ultimately decided that it should be refitted with the latest armaments, so that it may continue to serve us.
A celebration was held near New London.
Special dispensation was given to certain worthy individuals of certain unlawful groups, such as the Corsairs and Outcasts, to enter house space. (These individuals had helped clear the way for our automated ship. Many thanks.). The Corsairs even provided wine for the occasion.
The Junkers Congress provided a scrap metal replica of our research ship in honor of the occasion.
