There are fewer pirates on the forums because of the very nature of a person who is prone to enjoy roleplaying a pirate. Such a person doesn't always like to be restricted by organized societal conventions in what's supposed to be a game. You get your bad spellers and non-Englishers, but consider that many pirates are free spirits who can't be bothered to read walls of texts on these boards.
Claiming there is a problem with piracy based off your very minute experience is rather idiotic. Its like saying there is a problem with the internet because I can't get online.
There are a ton of factors that can come into play. The faction you are trading as, the time of day you trade, the route, the area you are trading it, etc etc etc.
Most pirates don't target normal traders because it is less profitable. Since the mining mod is off, some pirates just don't log on. Some that do aren't aware the mining mod is off. It will eventually pick back up. I'd be more than happy to take your cargo on my Xeno, if you give me a reason that is.
There's smart trading and there's stubborn trading.
One will get you robbed over and over again, the other one will allow you to slowly build up to your billions. Sometimes taking the shortest route doesn't necessarily mean it's the best. Trading is a battle of wits in itself.
I got ratted by a pair of pirate transports the other day. They chased me from lolberty all the way to new tokyo.
I also don't do a specific run so I am literally all over the map. I meet very few pirates these days.... makes me wish I had a bigger transport. The contrans only pays for itself if you have to fight your way through.
on a side note, yeah the traders are more silent now. It is hard to type and costantly cd spam or dodge shots. I become pretty expensive at this point.
If you really want to make it through cheap... say something. You might be surprised.
