But the pierat in me says PLEASE NO.
One of the greatest tools we have is fear.
Traders pay up beacuse they fear.
If that fear is negated, if they know that every single police in that house knows somethings going on, it might get harder.
Might.
I dunno, maybe not.
I've already had some fun inventing tactics with some pierat buddies, messing with the poor po-lice of Liberty.
But it is rather disconcerting to enter a tradelane, pop out, and then ten seconds later have a navytype or police type come popping out right behind you. A majority of the time.
*shrugs*
It rebalances the fight, i suppose.
Whats to say by the time we are able to respond, if this was in Liberty, that you wouldn't already be gone and the trader pirated/destroyed?;)

Less trader-pirate rp?
Whenever I pirate, I stop more people in the lanes that I DON'T pirate then I do. Rhinos, Civilians, fighters etc. Having to move after each lane down would be pretty tedious.
Push pirates even more to mining fields
Pirates might just get 'to' venerable.
Although piracy would move more to the border worlds where there should be more piracy too.
Kepler, Galileo, Bering, Hudson, Sigma's, Omega's, Tau's, Magellan, Cortez.
Also I think the ship scans should be less detailed
IFF, ship type, cargo should be enough imo.
Wow, how do you guys pirate nowadays? Shoot lanes and wait for things to stop?
Smart pirates would watch their scanners and wait for a known trader to show up before disrupting the lanes. Otherwise, the trader may slip through due to the weird lagtime between TL recoveries where they can pass through a broken tradelane right before it comes back up. Also, I'm not itching to stop a lawful when I'm pirating. I want traders; I'll stop traders.
I'm perfectly okay with this idea. Heck, pirates could have a ball by entering cruise by a bunch of tradelanes, engine killing at 350 speed and then just taking down ALL the tradelanes in a strip.

No.

...have sombody take a lane down in a place that is not where the main action is going to be, to bait the police away to some remote location, chasing ghosts, while the main group are off having a jolly old time.

see above, that would be baiting (rather blatantly) to get the police to go to a location desired by the pirate, the police will have to work out if its a hoax or not, just like the pirates will have to learn to be more crafty in response.
problems i can see with this include, all the other times a lane is disrupted, say by a trader to cover their own backs when they exit a lane, or by a escort who drops a nuke to cover a trasport rear as he enters the lane after it.
could resort to over spam.. but i still think this is a good idea worthy of pursuit.
