Considering the time period the sleepers were launched from, too..
I'm thinking the sleeper ships represent culture more than heritaged appearance. Though it is certainly a factor, I wouldn't be surprised if there were, for instance, nordic descent among the people of liberty and bretonia. Much like I wouldn't be surprised of there were slavic people aboard liberty/rheinland ships.
The problem is freelancer stock. It's made to represent some really well made stereotypes and things people can recognize.
But that's just my take on it.
Edit: though I have to agree with Echo. It's not just a bunch of racial features. It's specific mother nations.
But on that note I must mention, the chansellor of Rheinland in the stock campaign sounds almost romanian, compared to certain germans I have heard speak english with an accent.
I agree about the thing about it not just bein' about physical details and genetics that determine your heritage/culture, but your RACE is dependent purely upon physical features.
For example, I wrote a speech about why people of the slaves of America's descent should be called Black instead of African American.
They should be called black because they are NOT African American, nor do they know anything about Africa or not enough to realize bein' African is not a compliment, because that's where AID syndrome came from, just to name one of a thousand diseases from Africa.
Also, since they were BORN in America, RAISED in America, and SPEAK English[though some people say American there to], it means they are AMERICAN, so if they want to stand out, which I do not agree with either, then call themselves Black, because "African American" only suits someone born from ONE African parent and ONE American parent, that is all.
[Mind you, I am not at all racist, I hate everyone equally.]
So basically, if you want to make the race of a character, that's easily decided by what you see on there outside.
But if you want to say there culture[ie. Zoners, Libertonians, et cetera], then it is much more complicated and it involves creating an elaborate story up which may or may not include parents, planet of birth, childhood memories, and religious practices, all of which are synonymous to culture.
Heritage is much simpler, because ask yourself what is your heritage?
Though losely based after so much interbreeding with other races, I am Choctaw, Cherokee, French, German, Russian, Irish, and Czechoslovakian, before it broke up of course.
But my heritage is Native American since I am more so that than anything else, even if I am whiter than white rice, on a paper plate in a snow storm.
You see, Race, Heritage, and Culture, are all completely different things. Race relates to what you look like on the outside, Culture relates to what your religious and family practices are, and Heritage relates to what race you are most from, whether you look like it or not.
Hope my insane rant helped. *rubs back of neck nervously* ^^''

Well, alright then. I guess my question's more or less answered.
Kudos to Team Rocket Admin and Ecko 7-7. Both of you made really convincing points about such facts. At least I know what to use now.
And no, Team Rocket Admin. Your texts weren't that long, and they were concise. Went into great detail that I truly appreciate, instead of basic one-liners.

They're not listed in the wiki, but it would be fair to assume people would develop different physical appearance on different planets. Dwarves on high g-level planets and so on. 8-|
