The Nanbu family was one a minor noble family. Their history can be traced centuries back, with more important members of this ancient clan having occupied posts of governor, naval captain, naval admiral, fiefdom lord, etc.
Their rise to power was moderate but progressing, and years after years, the son of the father was always one rank upper the Kusari society. That is, until the traitorous backstab from Samura. When the shogunate was instituted, many purge were made many royal families were completely exterminated, while some survived after making shameful concessions. The Nanbu family did manage to survive, but never since that time has any of them managed to climb the ranks of the Kusari society, always being refused by a reason les or more believable. The shogunate didn't forget. The Nanbu neither. Frustration grew tense, and every generation of young Nanbu one after the other were told to hate the shogunate for what they did. But their tradition in the imperial navy made them reluctant at openly fraternising with the Blood Dragons, even if they silently support this group of courageous men and women. Some of the richer members of the family sometime sent large amount of donation to the Dragons willingly, wishing them success.
But if government changed, Samura's influence wasn't that strong in the army, and that has kept the Nanbu serving with less or more entuhsiasm one generation after another...
Kyosuke Nanbu is a 24 years old gunboat captain of the Imperial Navy, serving the nation like many other young kusarian. Though his wasnt a reason of patriotism, but plainly a reason of traditions and personal honour. A life wasnt worth being lived if you werent a warrior.
His rise in the ranks was relatively fast, being competent and seemingly naturally born with a commanding aura that gained the respect of the dozen men under his command. This comradeship was strengthened after years of serving Kusari in solo operations, their gunboat being a special prototype advanced version, they would often be assigned lone flights lasting whole months, serving as either long distance patrol ship, or the secret monitoring eyes and ears of the Empire.
With his orators gift, Kyosuke managed to get ever closer to his soldiers, and when he felt them confident enough, he began his little plan Because, the Nanbu family has a legacy to preserve, and he was going to defend it, even if that meant he would be the last of the Nanbu to live.
It wouldnt matter. Honour was before life.
He began his rant over the actual government, complaining about the ridiculous and dishonourable war against the Bretonian, exaggerated everything by qualifying the Queen and her people as pacific, honourable people whose only objective was peace, while the shogunate was doing the same mistake the Empire of Japan of the old has made: allowing himself to become too ambitious, becoming an evil belligerent nation while the real goal of Kusari was to be the Guardian of peace and order, discipline and righteousness. If at the beginning, the men were a bit reluctant to listen to their captains blasphemous comments, after years of living together, years of proving himself loyal to the Kusari people and themselves, they became convinced: the shogunate was an evil incarnation built by the demonic Samura, their nation was being slowly eaten by a band of greedy businessmen. These arguments were even better proved when the shogun ordered to open fire on civilian bretonian convoy. After Kyosuke has made speech on how an honourable warrior was never to fight the unarmed and the innocent, that last military mistake of the Imperial Navy finally convinced the crew of the Kurogane Zankantou. While in mission in Tau-31 with their sister ship, the Shirogane Zankantou, Kyosuke decided the time has come.
With the complete approval of his loyal crewmen, they suddenly diverted course in their patrol, and engaging their engine at full power, rammed violently the Shirogane Zankantou. The crew of the other gunboat, completely unaware of their traitorous intentions, had shielding at minimum power, and offered no resistance to the modified cutting hull of the Kurogane. After violent shaking, horrific shriek of metal and explosions, when all hell finally faded back into the dull whiteness of the icy system, the Shirogane was no more: It was now a neatly sliced in two gunboat, helpless near the tau-31 minefield.
At the same time, dozens of family in Kusari moved toward Liberty or Bretonian world. The whole operation was organised secretly his men could now be at peace in their mind; their family wont be hurt by their acts, and Kusari wouldnt be fool enough to enrage Liberty along with Bretonia.
That day, they made contact with the Outcasts after announcing they defected from the KNF. Kyosuke rapidly explained the situation, and knowing these powerful pirates had strong ties with the Blood Dragons, requested to contact the exiled imperial guards. A few days passed as they were allowed to moor on Cali base, in a neighbouring Tau system.
Finally, the feared red painted Blood Dragon fighters came, and Kyosuke shook hand with the first man of noble Kusari descent. They looked at each other with the respect of a warrior to another, and talked for a long time of the past time, seemingly nothing important with Kyosukes defection. The Outcasts of Cali didnt seem to understand this, yet it was part of the Kusari people, this inner sense of knowledge: the Blood Dragon already knew Kyosuke was one of theirs ever since they saw each other. Determining if one was worthy or not was often just by looking at how ones stood, looked, and acted.
The young captain was captivated by the lords tales about the future, and felt pride when the man mentioned it was the righteous and only way that was for him to defect to them, it was his destiny.
At the end of the day, Kyosuke and his men pledged to overthrow the evil Kusari shogunate and eradicate Samura, even if they should die.
Kyosuke smiled as they approached the gigantic asteroid of Kyoto. He will avenge Kusari now.
