Uhhm, I believe there has been a very similar thread some months back.
Anyway, my keyboard settings for the most important actions:
ASWD - Strafing
E - Mine
QE - Barell rolling
GF - Bots/bats
UIOK - Turret steering (I know that sucks, couldn't think of anything smarter yet, considering I scarecly use it I dun care much.)
Tab - Thruster
C - CM
Shift + W - Cruise speed
Mouse 3 or 4 - Full stop
V - Backview
...
I always use solely 2 weapon groups, one is set on 1, the other one on some fabulous mouse button.
' Wrote:Wait...how do you assign Shift + something?
Just do it the same way you bind any other key. Select the field, and when it asks you for the key input hold shift and press another key... Same works with Ctrl + Key and Alt + Key combinations.

Seriously...
Of course you can. Want a picture of my ingame settings-page?
You can set [CTRL]+something as well. Oh, I forgot a few keys, that mentioned.
It's really surprising how much you can do with the ingame settings and a good rythm alone. Like firing two different types of guns alternating without them being in the same group and such.
