If done with your faction/char only the system could work. However I still see a problem, I could buy some of the shares and forget about it completely, using your system as a cash cow only, and getting my money at the end of the month without caring much about it, and doing nothing for the faction, while its members do all the job, so there must be some kind of incentive for people to buy and sell shares.
and many people do that in RL to

however the incentive you ask? well im sure that when .86 comes out ppl will be buying lots and lots of new ships and needing code names for example accordingly thus if a codename dealer were to sell stocks his business would skyrocket with lots of sales thus making his income for the month thus causing his stocks to go up THUS making ppl want to sell stocks since the stock value for his stocks just went up.

on the other hand he maight have a slow month (this is where the faction needs an active stock manager(i would offer my services to anyone using stocks) to buy back stocks for (hopfully) less then the faction sold them in the first place)

the stock market would hopfully be a VERY active market and add tons of great rp.

all the incentive for selling and buying shares thus comes from the current value of stocks.

Voted it might need some fixing, seems time-consuming and a little bit complicated.

on the time consuming.

well the way I see it just about everying with good RP potential while still being able to make money is time consuming, but if you know a way to make it faster let me know.

on the complicated.

well yes it is a little complicated and I did my best to simplify it from a normal stock market as best I could but once again if you know how to make it simpler then please do tell.

Well, stocks could be tied to the overall profits a faction brings in by buying and selling commodities or mining. That + random fluctuations = a semi realistic stock market representation which could work easily through FLHook and be automated.

Then all that needs to be done is some interface for buying and selling stocks, the amount of which would probably be dictated by the amount of players in a faction or something similar.

It's still a pretty complicated thing to do though. Would take a while probably.

The notion of stocks in our game universe sounds like a fascinating experiment. And the process wouldn't require automation, or even top-level approval, just be handled manually by someone willing to take the role of the central bank or stock exchange (or whatever).

At least to see if the system is workable.

which as I believe I said before I would be more then willing to do IF enough of the community is willing to participated by buying stocks thus the reason for the poll.
