oorp chat by people I don't know is ignored. And I find my playtime is much better for it.

yeah except I know it because he told me. Who knows, maybe he is pirating from the other miners because they were encroaching on his territory, whatever the reason he is the one that said the pirate ship was his
Only problem for me is that he told my navy destroyer, and that guy can't bring justice to the miner directly. I can think of a couple of other things to do with the info, like sell it, or get a "second ship" for the pilot, etc.

Just thinking right now
Those are both a bit OORP on your character's part. You could submit it as incriminating evidence to the Navy or to the Police forces in whatever system the miner/pirate was. That would be a bit more logical.
ooRP info....When Gallia came out...we all knew where it was...how to get there...
In Game....I spent 3 weeks floating in space near manhattan talking to everyone and their dog about selling me a map or taking me to Gallia, even though I knew how to get their..My character did not...It may depend on how honest you like to play the game...Yea...I know where it is at, but my character he only knows what he encounters or hears in-game.
So, someone gave you some grief....logged back on in another Character and voiced his displeasure over PM's to you...He did this from another ship and now you know that ships name..(right so far?)...
Key words you used..
"One day you catch a known pirate in your destroyer, then a minute later an IMG miner is yelling at you about the fight. He's not in the wrong comm, it's not an accident, he's complaining to you about blowing up his pirate ship."
If he is PMing you about it after the fact...Is there a, can't shoot such and such ships in a Destroyer rule being broken?
So now you wanna, I guess "Troll" the guy in return, make a pirate ship just to log onto when he is mining and stuff like that?
If I get what you are saying...sounds like metagaming....you are Mining and see a dude pull up in a half loaded hege and don't like him crowding your mining spot....so you go back to your station...dock...get your Pirate character and go make an extra few millions or have a bunch of ore to collect.
I am not trying to sound accusatory or nothing...just trying to get the situation clear.

No. Known pirate gunboat, gave a /1 quickly so he couldn't run off like the 2 previous encounters, closed the tradelane escape route and blew him up. He was mad because he had come into town to kill another pirate who had blown up his transport. So if anything, he was breakin the rules by re-entering combat.

I'm not looking to troll him, or even hunt him. It makes me mad that a miner is using a pirate, but I don't want to know his name or anything. Really just wondering if its allowed to "know" multiple ships belong to one guy and then act on it (such as previous examples). I'm sure I'm alright if I stay within ID rules for any actions, just an interesting thing to think about.
