How are these implemented? It looks like there are a few basic backgrounds, then additional overlays are used to show things like nebulas in neighboring systems. What are the image formats? Is there a viewer for the backgrounds and overlays?
Is it possible to replace the washed-out, denim-colored, pixelated background that is used everywhere with the black starry background that is used in the new Virginia system? Would it look alright? Does anybody know what files
I've never replaced any of them, if it is allowed (doesn't change gameplay, why not?) maybe try to copy this file into starsphere folder and rename it with the name of system's sphere that you want to be replaced with starsphere_li15.cmp (so original system sphere is replaced with Virginia's sphere, it has old name but new file)
It is possible to replace them, yes. Know any good artists who can make them, Ursus? If no, it's work that nobody is volunteering to do and thus no change will happen.

I don't, no, but when I look at them in some of the systems they seem pretty simple, so right now just trying to figure out what they are and how they are assembled.
