I know replacing mod files is *technically* not allowed in the Disco RP 24/7 Rules. I also know that this is because any replaced files *might* give an unfair advantage. However, I also know that some graphical mods that could possibly give a slight advantage (such as HUDshift or Realistic Lighting) were approved for use, and since searching this forum for threads on approved audio mods returned nothing...
Can I use the Hidamari Sound Mod (found here) on the official Disco RP 24/7 server? I realize there are a lot of other SFX mods out there, I thought I'd just ask because this is probably one of the oldest and most popular SFX mod for Discovery.
Can I use the HQ Original Music Mod (found here) on the official Disco RP 24/7 server? I've read in other threads that music mods weren't allowed because you could just silence the game and play whatever music you want in the background, but this one, in my opinion, is different, because it does not change the music itself, only the quality of it. And believe me, the quality jump is so huge, you don't need to be an audiophile to hear the difference. If, however, I cannot use this mod, could I submit it to the mods for approval, even if I am not the author of the mod?
On a similar note, while I'm here, I'm planning to HD-ify 4.86 textures (the 1.21 Freelancer HD Texturepack is nice and all, but IMO, it's too grainy and some textures' colors are screwed up, ie. too light or too dark compared to the original). How would I go around submitting it for approval once it's finished (there are no threads about this either), and is there any chance it might be approved once I do?
Hmm, I am sure that if nothing else, the original music mod ought to be of great interest to the devs. It would be nice to have all the original music but with greater sound quality. Having said that, you're right to ask about the music mods before simply going ahead and installing them.
There probably wouldn't be any problems as such by installing it on the technical side, but generally speaking its best to leave such things well alone to avoid any potential trouble or glitches, not to mention trouble from the admins if you got found out to be using mods (even though in my opinion music mods represent no issues really and should be ignored. But I'm also not a techie, so don't know what exploits can potentially use music related files).
You won't eat sanction or anything if you use non-Discovery sounds. They don't change the gameplay and don't give any advantages so they're no problem.
I can say that because I use my own music mod for quite a long time, never had any issues.
P.S. You should talk with Cannon after finishing that texture improvement of yours and see what he says.
