So, I try launching disco from steam a few days ago but it didn't work so well because it zoomed in the screen a lot and made the graphics go to a lower resolution (mostly stuff like nebula and far distance things)
So i took it off steam but the graphics issue was still there.
so today I unistalled disco and freelancer and reinstalled from scratch but the graphics issue is still there with the low resolution.
Oh, also I can't alt+enter or alt+tab without my screen going black now...
Try adding -dx at your Steam shortcut in the end of the Target directory, if you didn't do so already. It might fix or just make it look better.
Steam > Library > Right click on your shortcut > Properties
If you don't know, example:
"C:/xxx/Discovery Freelancer 4.86.0\EXE\Freelancer.exe" -dx
About the screen going black, I have no idea, since I've never experienced it.
I've had trouble with a lot of games since I "down"graded to w7.
A lot of my games have black outs when I try to alt+tab, but i fixed it by running everything by administrator.
Sounds to me like your video card isn't in the list of known graphics cards for FL. Are you using a newer type video card perhaps? There's a topic on this somewhere... digging it up.
That should help you out. For people experiencing graphical lag, check this as well.

Hm. I've been running FL via Steam since I started playing and never had graphic issues, not on this PC. However, on older notebooks I often received a notification saying that my video drive had not been detected... no negative effects ensued ingame afterwards tho. *shrugs*
Ok lets get this strait for people blaming windows o/s or my graphics card
Everything worked fine, then I launched from steam to see if that worked, graphics/alt commands went away. I then took it off steam and the problem remained, so i reinstalled freelancer and again it still remains.
