Quote:Server Rule 1.2 Server administrators will impose sanctions on players for violating server rules and for any actions that harm server gameplay.
Consequences:
You get pirated in your first ship (Henry21), and as you do, you watch another trader fly by unscathed. The fact that you get pirated while the other trader skates annoys you to no end, so you hop on another ship (Antaran) and meet up with that trader to give him the pirating that you feel he deserves. While pirating him you say, "Henry sends his regards."
Lame lame lame.
This is metagaming at its finest. Loss of credits. Receipt in hold.
If you post in this sanction and are not directly involved or a leader of the accused person's faction be advised that you are consenting to be subjected to the reprisal of my choice which may involve in game repercussions up to a ban.
Blaming members of your immediate family, neighbours, friends, pets, and assorted Orcs, Trolls and any other legendary creatures may result in the use of Admin Right #CTE 750AE
I am the captain of the Antaran. I fail to see the metagaming behind my actions, but I accept your decision. I have no choice. I'm not here to talk myself out of the sanction.
I'm here to clear some points in this event and ask a question.
Event:
First I was pirated. I had a cargo worth more than the pirate was asking so I let him kill me. The next time I flew that way a few minutes later I warned a trader named Minuteman to avoid lanes because a pirate is there. He refused saying 'I'll be fine' and flew onto the lane. I followed him to see what will happen and the pirate let him through. I escaped the lane before I could be pirated again. I asked the pirate if the trader is his buddy and he said "Yes". I carried on with it but marked the names. Several days later I pirated Minuteman.
Question:
I felt justified not realising I'm braking rules. In fact I am still not completely aware of the concept of 'metagaming'. If anyone can PM me its correct description (admin or not) to prevent future sanctions from my side I'd be very thankful.
Metagaming is using out of role play knowledge that your character shouldn't or couldn't have known. In your case, Henry21 had an unpleasant encounter with a pirate. Henry21 sees another trader fly by that same pirate and not get pirated. (as an aside, he did get pirated earlier by that same pirate and paid before he ever ran across you. The pirate let him go because of that.)
You however, did not know that. All you see is someone getting passed a pirate unscathed while you have to either pay or die. You chose to let the pirate destroy your ship and cargo, which is a bit oorp in itself, but I digress.
It wasn't several days later, more like, less than 10 minutes later, when you hopped onto another ship and went after that trader using knowledge that Antaran could never have known. IIRC, you demanded the same that was demanded of you by the previous pirate and made reference to your other character when you stated, "Henry sends his regards."
All of that because you got mad in your mistaken impression that the trader was getting special treatment by the pirate.
Several details missed my attention and I got some false implications. But my actions were really not conducted by emotion. Its just a game.
And thank you for explaining me and being fair Garrett. I will keep these in mind.
