SUBJECT: RE^9: News from the Homefront
ENCRYPTION: Low
Mel,
"Creepy omens" is one way to put it, at least you weren't assigned there by some shady Navy desk-man. Please say you weren't, I'd rather not have the conspiracy really here. The other hotels booked out would be for the better off refugees, there are a lot of people in the camps on NL and Cambridge. They get by, but it's a horrible sight.
As far as I know, neither side is looking to wipe out the other for your end of things, but the militaries on both side still have to face the horrors of war. It's not a nice thought to consider anyone lucky with any sort of war. One thing though, is how losing your home drives people. You should see how fierce the conviction of some of these people is, and even if they've left their home they have ships, or the skills to use them. I'd already been organising some training in Cambridge, but I think this could be a proper civil militia at some point. It's a... project, to keep me positive for one thing. They all know what they've lost and remember it, I guess there'll be a lot of them at the service. I'll need to check the exact date of the service and let you know when we need to show up.
You did mention the Furious getting decommissioned, but I didn't know if you'd be re-(re-re-?)assigned to another ship or not. You hung up the uniform (not just on a hangar or the floor) for real this time? I didn't expect that, nor to just have you as "plain old Mel". We can talk about what you're planning on doing now you're a civilian like me.
I heard word of that massacre as well, I do hope it's propaganda for their sake. Other than that though, it does seem quiet on the conspiracy front. Probably the calm before a storm as it seems to go with this. As long as your hotel doesn't fly off into the Omicrons I think we're personally safe for now.
Whatever your rank or lack thereof, I'll be there to see you off the shuttle and stop you getting lost... I'll look up the Aurora first though. Dinner sounds good, I know a few good places around town that might fit my salary and your Navy savings. I've also got a surprise I'd think would be better said in person, I'm sure you'll just love hearing about it.
