If you need a pirating transport thingie, the Pirate Transport available on Montezuma Base in Cortez is pretty good at it. The OPG use it to great effect, a pack of them even whiffed three credits off Caylith's admin character!
The Kushan Freighter available on the Rheinland Battleship in Omega-15 (right next to the planet in the system's center) is also a monster, as is the Armored Transport.
Well, I did have the pirate transport, but I got annoyed with not being able to flee into the badlands when the fuzz showed up... so downgraded to something smaller.

something I learned not to long ago: You can use... I don't know what it's called, but something with trade routes. when you open your map, you can see some icons above it. one of them is called something with trade routes. if you click it, white lines will appear on the map and showing you trade routes and ways to most bases and jumpholes. Try it, I've explored a lot of the universe with it
What you mean is the patrol paths, definitely a good suggestion, but some of the new systems dont have patrol paths. Though Newcastle does, and thats how I zeroed in on the actual bases (there was 2 bases I missed on my initial sweep (that system is massive...)

I was lucky then. I went around the big blue thingy to get over to the Nomad base.
Oh, and I found out about the death zones in SP:angry:
