Rodney Cammish is quite a peculiar fellow. Friendly, polite, intelligent. At times aggressive, angry, and competitive. A passionate man. A great racing pilot.

He was born to Bert and Emily Cammish in 786 AS on Planet Leeds. They had a nice, large flat in one of the few non-industrial, environmentally sealed districts that dot the otherwise factory-covered planet surface. Bert Cammish worked as a personnel manager in one of the largest manufacturing plants while Emily stayed with their only child in the apartment, handling the household and driving Rodney to and fro school. There Rodney lived for his first six, rather uneventful, years.

In 792 AS, Bert Cammish received a job offer from Bretonia Mining and Manufacturing. He was to move to Stokes Mining Station and take care of personnel affairs there, much the way he had on Leeds, except on a considerably larger scale. Though Stokes was only one trade lane away from the planet, the Emily Cammish decided to come with her husband, for she believed that their young son had to grow up near his father. Not having any educational facilities on Stokes - after all, it is a mining facility - Emily had to homeschool Rodney. Only a handful other children lived on Stokes - the children of important managers - and only two of them were Rodney's age. Not having much to do on the station as most of it was off-limits to children, the young Cammish boy had to deal with a boring, dark, and uncomfortable environment.

In 797 AS, Bert and Emily Cammish decided that Stokes was not the right place for now eleven year old Rodney to grow up. So Emily and their son moved to a newly built house in a rural district on Planet Cambridge. There Rodney was again able to attend a real school where he, though at first having trouble socializing, soon made numerous friends among the other students and neighborhood children. For the next seven years, he and his mother lived their happily, enjoying the tri-annual visit of Bert Cammish.
