Why, oh why, has all the low-end stuff been omitted? This has severely damaged the role-play principles of this game by forcing players to use powerful load-outs. I'm dismayed, I truly am. The guns are now doing a ridiculous amount of hurt and they cost way too much for those with little money. There's just no way to have a poor character any more, even the under-level rule is pretty much redundant because it's probably impractical for anybody to have guns and remain below level 30. I mean, what the heck is the point in a Starflier having a missile slot if it can't even fire the weakest one (the Catapult)? I've noticed that the player count has been quite low, even for a Thursday evening, and there's no wondering as to why. This place has obviously gone PvP > RP.

It was only being used by a small fraction of the server population, making the equipment mostly redundant, particularly since it was all on the path to "top-tier" equipment anyway. From a balance perspective, it's also much easier to balance; and from a technical standpoint, it means we can have class-specific weaponry, such as Light Fighter guns, by freeing up whole tiers of mostly unused items.
It is unclear to me why those more interested in (your implication of) roleplay can't have the same interactions they desire using the top level equipment. It's not really top-tier any more, actually; with only one/two tiers of weaponry, it's not so much better or worse as it is difference amongst the same tier.
This is also the first time I've heard fighter weaponry described as too expensive. A few hours of trading in a medium transport should be sufficient to fully equip a VHF.
Since the Starflier isn't available for purchase anyway, permitting it to use top-tier equipment is not exactly a high priority.

Despite your worst suspicions, I am confident that such a radical shift does not happen overnight. The players who visit the forum would have read about the beta testing period and impending rollback, and therefore have been avoiding playing until after the rollback (which occurred recently). Player numbers should rise now that the mod is stable.
Thanks for your response, Echo. I'm just gutted is all that I no longer have the option of using poor ships and equipment for the humour value. Even some of the Rogues enjoyed buzzing around in a Bloodhound in spite of it being utterly useless, and the Drake was genuinely useful in competitive combat due to its amazing agility. I actually still have a Starflier but it's impractical to rely on the Catapult missile as it hardly ever fires due to it requiring the same power that is generated. Not to distract from the great work done, though.
