The current countermeasure launchers launch the countermeasures directly to the rear of the ship right? Now if we delve into the cesspit of reality, large ships or planes even submarines have some form or countermeasures.

Their countermeasures are launched to the sides of the craft, reducing the chance of a missile launched at the front or rear of the ship from impacting the ship, but this is a bit less effective from missiles launched from the sides.

This launcher will fire countermeasures to the side of the vessel, this would be an advantage to a fleeing transport or higher class, since even a CD hitting a close CM can disrupt the ship from my experience.

Feedback?

EDIT: For it to be rally effective, is it possible for the CM to be launched at a slight velocity instead of just dropped?

Yeah actually I agree but Id prefer the to be expelled and "thrusted" from the ship (sorta how a mine fall out and goes about 4 or 4 meters before homing in on the nearest thing.) Maybe we can amplify this funtion cause using counter measures only works against CDs when you canstanty drop then until you're 4 K away that's boring and well boring.

Expelled the thrusting would be good, coding it could be problematic. For balance you can only launch 2 a second or something?

I have an Idea...look at video of any aircraft expelling flairs or chaff( helicopters also). And couldnt the CM launcher be givin a "firing arc" similar to the firing arcs for weapons?....but this would involve more hardpoints/re-locating existing hardpoints, and maynot be worth all the extra hassle of doing.

A firing arc? Isn't that due to gravity or something? Which space tends to lack unless you next to the resident black hole...

I doubt arcs could work unless the CM's are programmed to, but it would be interesting to see and confuse the hell out of the missile in pursuit.

I think hes reffering to when a turret is unable to fire at a target because if it did, it would have to shoot hough the ship it self.

Ah my bad, my brain isn't firing on all cylinders.

Making use of that useless Turret point could be good, a gun firing CM's? A wait that would bypass the cruise engine thing, but it may be useful in dogfights.
