I wanted to know the specific co-ordinates of a station, planet or battleship (basically any port). I noticed the map has a rather vague co-ordinate reading. such as "Sector y, x" but tbh for what I am planning this isn't at all useful.
I also noticed that when you zoom in the squares are further broken down into much smaller squares. I presume that a square is made up of a 10x10 grid of smaller squares. Unfortunately the main sector square lines are not highlighted and hence it is impossible to tell where one sector begins and ends.
I am relatively new to FL, so I may be just blind but could someone tell me how to get an accurate map reading for a station. ie: sector (6.8),(E.4) or whatever. Surely you would need an accurate x,y to place nodes so could they be found in a particular game file?
when you're in an unmapped system, there is a button on the navmap that will show patrol routes, this is a great way to locate bases & jumpholes ect, as you can see where they converge the most. follow them.:cool:
I have no pointer to offer but on the same line of questioning:
What I really hate is that the game only works on the x and y scale as far as positons go. So if a fellow Law officer calls for backup in C4 and you burn you engines out trying to get there and as soon as you get to the area, nothing on scanners.

You burn your up and finally get there to either pick up his E-pod or congradulate him on the kill. you check the distance above C4 is 90k. It would be nice when you pull your Nav Map up and the little blue ship that represents 'you' would have a + beside it to tell your support where you are at on the x,y, and z axis.

Yeah, the thing is; surely the designers of both the game and this mod would need an accurate co-ordinate to place a planet or station or whatever. You can't just say i'm going to place Planet New London in sector 4G cos that means nothing to the game. Surely in a file it should have an accurate x,y co-ordinate of the node to position it in the game enviroment and then be able to display it correctly on the map...
The only thing that follows the coordinate grids are waypoints and the map.
While searching through the different files in FL, i came across the one that controls placement of solars (ingame structures such as planets, docking ports, stations, etc). Which uses X, Y, Z followed by ##### or -#####.
X, Y, Z coords would be much more difficult to do than simply remembering to keep your allies updated on your position, even if your simply moving from one place to another using trade lanes, as that cuts down on what you have to type once you are in a fight.

We already have the (x,y). I would think it would go something like this: C4-30 or C4+40 to relay your position.

If you are in prusit of a person you could when you go to the map to get your position to relay, click in front of your craft and click Waypoint and look at your left HUD and get the Distance to the plane then just relay the info. This would allow the player coming to assist to pitch nose up or down to get there faster...........Might have to try this.
