actually - back when the personal ships were allowed by igiss, they WERE the property of the players, not the mod - but the mod allowed the player property to take part in it. so yea - igiss could have kicked the ships out of the mod at any time, but he could not really have said "look, i ll just make it a public or SRP ship"

but there are different grades of unique ships

- the necrosis is the archetype of a unique ship. it is by its very lore not reproducable - unless you strip it down and reverse engineer it, which would probably not happen - at least with the original Mon'Star character around

- the Persephone is a unique ship, too ( least till prowler spawned another one ) - which was by lore not reproducable

- the Imperial yacht however is a semi unique ship. there is no technological barrier to make another one - but its role and association means that there should be only one. - with the kusari empire / republic and the schizm of the realm - it would not have been far fetched to produce more or mothball it entirely as it the very symbol of monarchy

- the tundra again is basically a unique ship BUT there is no reason another LSC can be infested just like it. I am not sure if its ID card says "Tundra" or just refers to it. - in any case it is a 2nd grade unique ship - and there is no reason by lore to have more of them

in order to understand that, you have also got to understand the circumstances under which they were allowed

dreygon was quite a driving force back in the days - one can say a celebrity. it was not so much his roleplay as it was the actual reputation his character enjoyed. - other players back in the days could have claimed similar things like YodaT for sure.

the persephone was asked for not for its roleplay but cause the model was there and there was absolutely no harm in doing so. - yea, easier times back then with easier people.

the imperial yacht was included, not cause of any need, but cause it kind of fit. it was also not meant to be bound to a player, but to a character / role ( meaning, the acting emperor of kusari - that is before there were plans to kind of rip kusari into two )

the only ship that got in for pure roleplay was zapps tundra - cause he was persistant and not harmful nor exploiting the freedoms of the SRP and the freedom of being a nomad back then.



but what happens to the ships when the owners stop caring?


- the necrosis passed to psi borg for a time i think - after that i lost track, but i am not sure there is a conclusive storyarc that covers it

- the persephone was meant to pass to the leadership of the taz - but for some reason we have multiple spawns of it, kinda bummer

- the kusari yacht was a typical flagship for the leader of the KNF - easy as that.

- the tundra - well, its generic enough to adapt to other RPs about infested liberty ships.


also we can easily change their look - turn them into little white squares with no turning and one hitpoint and no guns - so that the owners have to get rid of them if we really want them gone. or we turn them into other ships that other players want to SRP.



personally i think - unless such a ship is activly passed on by the owning player, it should be removed - and held as a placeholder for other players.

those other players would not get the same model - but would need to wait for a modeller and the admin team to approve a new ship ( basically a totally new ship - just the same ID entry )

the ships ARE kind of property of the players, usage of them is kind of shady unless fully agreed on. if the owners make have no plans about them, they ought to be mothballed - that is much better and respectful than reusing them "just for the sake for it"

No, it promotes unhealthy jealousy instead of healthy competition between people.

Possibility for bias too great.

Forget about unique ships and focus on factions who have problem with their own ships.

I have always disliked unique ships. It places players into tiers.

Make em open to the public or delete them has always been my stance, although I've made very little progress on it during my time as admin in either direction, it's not a popular stance. Have fun if your going to try.

It annoys me that 'mwahahahaha' is all this community remembers about Dreygon. Kevin was a cool dude, who was one of the very first to roleplay around here when it was a PvP server. That's why he got his own ship. Go read his stories. /siderant

I do like the idea of more SRPs, and as Spazzypants above me said, I don't necessarily agree with removing them, although re-purposing them might be allowed.

If SRPs get people writing more and doing more stories and events, I'm in. And if their reward is a special ship, cool. Note though, that battleships shouldn't just fall from the sky. If there isn't a proper infastructure/crew/resources in place (in lore) to support capital ships, it shouldn't happen.
