ok um. can we please reserve the open cargo hold for some different ship model than the GMG whale? I mean, those guys are supposed to fly though gas-clouds, even though its for the open market. dont think that an open hold would be such a good idea =/

I can't believe i'm saying this to one of your designs Jinx, but I hate it.

I love my Whale. I've flown it from one end of Sirius to another. It's fragile as an egg as it is now, and can be CD'd from any angle except the back 5 degree cone. The shape is just fine as is, even if it is a dreaded import.

If you have to make a new model to show the GMG roots of it, perhaps make it a bit rounder and less elongated, slightly...SLIGHTLY...resembling a gas miner. If necessary, lower the hold to 4500 (I'm for this actually) as well. I'd even be for lowering (I hate the term "nerf") the shield capacities of Lvl 7 shields a bit as well, but leave the other stats alone. she falls to pirates just fine.

That thing isn't a whale, it's a crab, a fiddler crab with that massive claw on top. either that or a flying flounder, flat as a pancake with eyes on one side.

I don't mean to sound like a jerk, and I know I do, but please leave my whale alone. :(

hehe - i should maybe write it bold and red - this is NOT a ship that is being submitted ! - it was a concept to check how a ship might look that is build with only the very extreme prerequisites..

- cheap
- maximum cargo
- minimum maintenance
- modular

just cause i put stuff into openSP and fly a few minutes with them doesn t mean they are finished ships. - it took me 30 min to make that ship from scratch untill i quickly replaced the files and made a little flight in texas..... so no worries:laugh:.

this is mostly about the balance of the whale - and about the popularity of the model itself ( its a high quality model with only a few texture problems - but other than that, its a very good model )

it makes no sense to work seriously on a ship before you don t know
- IF the community wants it replaced in the first place ( like the ravens talon )
- IF the current stats are OK and are reflected in the models appearence

gotto check that stuff out before. - i haven t made those things with ships i made replacements for before, cause i knew that the current models for them were rubbish and the vast majority would want them to be replaced ( like the liberty BC - or the BHG warships ... ( which dreygon asked the community before anyway ) )

so far i know that ...

- the model is quite popular - and that its not likely that people actually want it to be replaced by something else. - as a freelancer model, it would be hard to make a convincable model of that size that would suggest the same cargo capacity.
- it also showed that a really basic cargo rig is hardly something that people would like to fly in freelancer. - so we re still a bit conversative about designs and are looking for ships with a chassis.

If it's a GMG vessel, may I recommend the integration of gas-tanks to the design? Pressurised gas doesn't hold so well in "boxes".
I do agree that the present Whale is far far too small to carry so much cargo.

Perhaps the whale should be upgraded in to a larger ship, the same model, and we're set... same stats and everything... or lower it's cargo, and posibly price aswell...

I'm all for changing it thou, It looks out of place, No other ship has such silly loadout... If you can afford 68M you can afford another one for proper arments...

No, it is NOT. I'd rather see Jinx's 'basic' model than an import anyday.

I don't care if you had an intimate relationship with R2D2, C3PO or 4U2P for that matter, a Star Wars(or any other) import should be roundhoused kicked out of the mod, to be replaced with top-quality models that we enjoy from our skilled modellers and texturers.

The whole community acts as a mod team. Use it.

.. Eh, I do't really care about the whale, but.. That model..


.. I actually see some use for that model. Slap it in there as some sort of transport with superior cargospace. Have it break the limit by being able to carry say, 6000, but then make it's agility/armor rather poor so that it's "easy prey.."

Since it's a rather basic ship, it could be a relatively cheap industrial transport. It'd ideally have little hull, poor agility, and horrible defenses - making it the perfect target for pirates, but a trader's wet dream if used in conjunction with escorts.

PS: If you fly the ship without cargo, does the model actually appear as if there's no cargo onboard? If so, that's friggin' cool.
