to add, if we're just altering the current HF line, why not just give them an extra CD-only slot and enough power to fire the above listed weapons. Keep their current weaponry setup - that'd allow them to equip a disruptor + mini razor and make them pretty versatile combat vessels at the cost of raw power.
Actually our ship list needs renaming. LF is LF, HF should become medium fighters(and they are) while current VHF would go HF. SHF can go VHF.
Also only thing current HF need is some edits in stats, and they work. I try to fly HF class ships lately, and they seem to be good enough. (namely, grayhound and marauder) They have less agility than LF, but enough to stay on tail, a feat rather inacessible to most ships of VHF class. Also they sport more powerfull weapon arsenal than LF that gives them chance to dish out some punishment. And, since they can mount and fire torpedos (and maybe razor, not sure on it tho, i dont use it) combined with agility gives them chance to rape bomber or brick VHFs.
Reason for not using HF class mosty is that players are either not patient enough, or believe that firepower is too low.
Alot of the LF's right now outarmour, and can mount higher sheild's then HF's. That is the biggest downfall. I can buy a MKII LF that will rape a HF. better handling/gun's/armour/sheild's.
I don't think the HFs need a Mk II version, but that they should just be upgraded to be better than Mk II LFs and worse than VHFs.

Guys, the only distinguishing factor between a bomber and a VHF is that a bomber has 2 torp slots. A light bomber would have two torp slots, but I would arrange it like this: Give it less energy than a regular bomber, less armor, and greater maneuverability.

I'll toss my 2 cents of clarification. Note that I don't know dingus about Corsair vessels and I have yet to see many ships that are in disco.
HFs that are underpowered compared to Liberator/Scimitar etc: Defender, LSF Defender (Executioner?) Crusader, Dragon, Valkyrie, Stilleto, Falcon, Wolfhound. These ships will get torn apart by MK2 light fighters.
HFs that have a VHF based on the same model: Defender, Executioner, Crusader, Dragon, Valkyrie, Wolfhound. These are far less eligible for the light bomber treatment because of model overlap. We'd need to draw up fresh ship designs for LB ships in these lines.
HFs that are balanced against the MKII Light Fighters and do not need revamp or light bomber counterparts: Greyhound, Crow, Taiiden, similar ships of HF class. These can run against MK2 LFs jsut fine, my crow and greyhound have the armor and firepower to keep up.
Now, I believe the idea was to add some ships, not take any away. All the HFs that exist would still exist. We'd jsut need to find a place to sale the LBs.
Frankly I think the Avenger and Guardian overlap. I'd rather the Avenger be an LB. This is just me, and I know people like variety, but there is standard issue for a reason. Not to mention there are more than enough LSF fighter types. I understand the want of many players to diversify though. I myself have been looking for a way to have a fast, light support gunship without it being useless and that isn't a gunboat. So far my best bet is an x-shuttle or similar vessel with a cap armor upgrade; but I haven't found the right thing yet. I recall a tough freighter in Rheinland I may use for this. I'd also like to have a light bomber; since I've never stood a chance against a gb in my guardian (yeah, no armor up sucks, but they wiped out everyone else who had MK8 armor too.) Some interceptors with stopping power would be good. I think it'd also help vs enemy transports and other ships with enough beefy defenses to shut down ships with less than bomber or cap offenses.
Quickly it seems fighter defense is useless against non-fighters. I do agree however that we should wait for the next installment, try it out, and then try to diagnose and develop further advances.
