This. The economy has been buffed several times in the semi-recent past, with field drain being turned off making mining much faster, the general across-the-board commodity buff that increased the profit rates for literally everything, the introduction of dirt-cheap base commodities replacing regular, sometimes very expensive commodities, the contraband buff (contraband used to have prices no different from other commodities, lel), and more recently the endless spate of event/temporary buffs, some of which are really, really generous.

In short, we make much more than we used to, but we don't spend more because ships don't cost more, CauVIIIs don't cost more, etc.
Spending money is good.
