I want to get a feel for what people's stance are to do with this.

When looking for factions to join and looking at the recruitment thread for these factions, does it bother you that sometimes some factions ask more from you to do to join but other factions ask less?

Do you mind a longer process to join but in the end you come out stronger? Perhaps the process is made so that you will have a better result of a character to RP with.

Do you refrain from writing long bios of your new character intentionally or do you just have no idea what you are getting into and therefore you want to develop your character as stuff goes on.

I have heard mixed results from some faction leaders I have heard from. Some leaders just take players and not worry about what they write as long as they are clean. Others look at what a player writes to see if they are actually doing what they would like and they state that if a player really wants to join, they will go through with the steps that it takes.

I am myself standing currently on the fence. I have been on both sides but now sit more on the 'longer recruitment' side of things just because I have seen the result of the opposite side.

However, I would really be interested into seeing the opinions of those who are just regular players. What is your views on recruitment threads and the standard that they create?

I'm indifferent about apps. It doesn't matter how much I have to write or do, as I join factions based on my interest in the faction.

Currently unable to consistently be present in the Community due to life constraints.

It depends. For some I like using a long bio, but other times I just like a vague Bio because I have a problem: I get awesome ideas for my character after I make them, and then I have to try and work them in and not break anything. Sometimes I can't do it.

Vague bios are good for people who might not have a lot of ideas on the outset but over time figure out great ideas for their characters, and long bios are good for people who know what they want and know if anything comes up thy let have an idea of how to incorporate it/be okay with not having it.

I'd say the Core app asks exactly what's needed from our recruits. I really try to stress the importance of people being considerate of their own characters because the problem is the Edge Worlds really suck for RP avenues. Character development doesn't come as easily because there's no ambient activity to support it.

We added the initiate process where they grab a fighter/gunboat remain from Iota to really help immerse our recruits in our lore in a way that doesn't drag on for too long and just gives them a nice trip in the Omicrons. Maybe they'll get to interact with others and think on their feet (but attacking armourless snubs is mean).

That is a hint hint to join Core Tongue

Personally i like it to be three things:
Well thought out and get the needed information.
Easy to read/Write
Give the writer ability to make theirs different that others (No Yes/No Questions and ask opinions on straight forward questions).

That to me makes a good app.

So it wont be a turn off then if a faction asks for a longer process to join them, yes?
It would rather be taken as an immersion feature rather than a pain in the butt?

im looking at this from both sides.

1) Sometimes. I'd like some factions to be stricter, the BAF| for example. AlphaWolf's (the leader) policy is to provide a home for new players and teach them stuff, while the GRN| like to only recruit the already experienced ones. This results is the GRN| winning more often and the newbies from the BAF| mysteriously disappearing, which cancels the effects of AlphaWolf's hospitality. At the same time, the GRN| policy is not as good for them as it first seems, since they don't help new players and thus tend to die out from time to time, so we have a less than ideal situation on the front.

2) The long process is bad in some situations, and good in other. Military and merchant factions should, by my opinion, have a quick process, while the less numerous and more serious factions like the K'Hara are good with their long process. I wouldn't join the prior if the process was long, but if I don't want to join the K'Hara just because of a long process, then I am not fit for it after all.

3) I dislike writing character bios. I think that it is a waste of free time which I don't have massive amounts of, and which I can spend better. If I write something, I prefer poetry and stories.

4) The recruitment process in the BAF| values more what you write than if you have been sanctioned or not. I'm not saying that we would let in someone red from admin slaps, though.
We still like to keep the process quick. Less job for both those who write it and who have to read it.

I guess from what I am getting at is that if the faction's nature of play demands for a more in depth character for the player to understand how to play then the recruitment should put emphasis on that.
Pretty much what I have experienced while recruiting, though it is not 100% certain of it to work. ;/

ty for the feedback so far guys. this is good for not only me to look at but also other faction leaders as well
