How many clans/factions/groups on discovery formed of a leader and maybe 2 or 3 more members ? How many inactive leaders leaving their factions dying behind and do nothing?
I see a lot .. some of them factions even mentioned on the previous reply. I think it's time for those inactive leaders to step aside and let someone else lead the group actively
Sometimes it´s not that easy. Not all factions have members willing/capable of taking the leadership, because it involves doing things which are not always fun to do. We are small community so there is limited number of people dedicated enough to the game/faction. Especially when some of them are also taking positions as admins and developers.
Also sometimes leaders go awol without previous notice just because some RL problems. When you have serious troubles to solve in your life, stuff related to gaming is not priority. Sure, there should be 2iC for this case, but like I said above, sometimes is not easy to find people even for this position.
Why can't bigger and very crucial military factions simply be in hands of Devs or Admins then? House Militaries should have be exempted from officialdom termination rules, but that is my statement only.

Because until they have a lot of time to spare, it will sooner or later end in neglecting their leader position or their staff position at the expense of the other one.

Why only house military's? Why not Police Factions, Unlawfuls, heck lets just get rid of all the requirements, after all its obvious being an official faction isn't something that anyone should have to work for and maintain.

I agree with ya mate, but there are players who are leaders of factions and not members in developers or administrators team .. and in the same time, their factions been so inactive and it's role play is almost close to Zero.. Their FSRs show zero links for RP, not even a single log from the game to prove activity. Put in consideration also that some factions do have active members but not active leaders, which is a very big problem. I actually encourage every faction leader to assign 2nd in command and 3rd in command (2iC and 3iC) just for these cases. After all, This is a RP server and it's the last standing Freelancer server with activity on it and to keep it this way, then we need people to step in and take charge of factions. The admins and developers shouldn't be the replacement .... actually they have a lot to do beside their real life issues etc.. so we need faction leaders who see that they are not offering any enlargement or progress to their factions to step aside with courage and let the active ones become in command. Even if they have to train them for a while on how to be a manager or CEO etc..
Mark you need to know, that not every member can lead a faction and also that not every leader gets the support from their members. To be a faction leader costs a lot of time, and when you have some member who doesn't support your work or just hate you, it will be a pain.

I can understand your point of view, and it's sad that the word "hate" is included .... it's a big word and shouldn't have a place among us here on this good server.
I also know that leading a faction is not an easy act and require lots of organizing and maintaining but i am not asking from everyone to step in and become a faction leader. I am asking those who are faction leaders already and didn't add any RP or progress to their factions lately to be honest with themselves and step aside for more capable players to occupy this position. This will enhance the activity of RP and presence in-game. I get your point tho completely.
Another thing I have noticed from the sidelines is the upsurge of new players joining the forum then somehow gaining control of a long standing faction with years of presence when they themselves have only 1 - 2 years experience, how did that happen? No offense but inexperienced leaders are a sure fire way to burn the house down

One of the best leaders ever of the RM was a guy with 3-4 months of experience. He was leading the faction for almost two years after being appointed leader and the faction was the second-third most active one on the server.
Newbies tend to be more devoted and feel more often like they have something to prove. "Veterans" get bored quickly since they've seen everything the game can show.
Time and age don't make great leaders. The ability to motivate people, organize things and innovate - Actual leadership skills - do make for good Leaders.
