Faction-unique ships

I'm not too familiar with the coding of a thruster, but I'm under the impression the thruster speed is judged by the thruster, not by the ship mounting it.
And if so, the problem I see with the intercepter thruster is people may buy the ship, dismount the thruster then buy a new ship. (or gather a lot of them and give them to their weapons dealer) meaning every man and his dog will have one, and those that don't will get their butts kicked in pvp.

You can always add a line saying 'this thruster may only be used on intercepter class ships' but it just causes the admins more hassle. Just look at the marsflyer guns for an example, except this would be more detrimentel.



As for the faction unique ship classes, what about a pirate sloop for the LR? A Gunship with decent manuverability that has all of its' turrets on the sides of its' ship, and its' turrets can only fire out sideways. This will force the ship to broadside other capships, and it may need twice as many guns as a normal gunboat/ship (but will still have the same amount of fire power, since half the guns point port, the other half starboard). The ship will also prob'ly be entirely anti-cap based.

a random idea, (for the lulz mainly) but how about a new cap ship class for the major houses (all lawfuls, gallia, oc + sairs only, no more)

basically, a destroyer (cruiser class obviously) only capable of broadside attacks. limited firing arcs, mix of turrets/guns/torp mounts. that would be so awesome tbh.

but i know it wont be done, not anytime soon anyway,:lol:

oh well. i tried by throwing the idea out there for you to consider xD

Thrusters do not work that way. The speed is determined by stats in you engine entry. The amount of energy or burn time your thruster has is stored in the ships power plant. All the thruster item does is allow thrusting and determin the rate that your burn time is depleted.

how about a few racing ships (same but with multiple colours blue, red, yellow, blah blah) 2 thrusters, 1 class 9 gun (it isnt gonna be able to kill anything but could make for some good.... action in races) very low armour im talking maybe 1k here so that only 5-6 shots form the gun can kill you.

one problem about special ships is - that human nature comes into play at one point....

first it is said "a bit more speed to intercept others" - and its like 2lvl7 guns and 2lvl8 guns at most - and maybe a lvl 6 LF shield.

but in the end, - people ask for a bit more speed and 2lvl8 guns, 2lvl9 guns and lvl8 LF shields. - which would then be much more powerful.

think of the camera ship with weapons ( and imagine it wasn t invisible of course )

when its about a really unique ship concept - one gotto stick to the original concept and the roots - special ships are very often "specialized ships" - that take one aspect of a fight to the extremes.... and so should suffer extremely in other categories.

then there are of course pure fun / RP ships. - real racing ships without guns, but with a tremendous thruster / drain.

if the thruster drained really fast and the thrust was really great ( like 500 ) - it would require quite some skill to manouver through those hoops. considering you d have to E-kill and fly at 500 all the time. - but weapons on such a ship? - better not.....

The only current interceptor is the Arrow, and it has 2 class 9 guns and a class 8 shield, plus a CM, CD and mine. No interceptor should have more than that loadout.
