Galactical Inspector D. Chemney was reading the last reports from the Omicrons in his STARPOL bureau at the 110th store of Manhattan Police Building, NY.
He suddenly felt very strange when he read this message:
To: Gal. Insp. D. Chemney, NY
From: STARPOL-Agent Spike, Sigma 19
Subject: CONFIDENTIAL
I'm afraid we have now concrete evidence of the growing power of Kusari's Secret Service in Omicron Beta.
Lieutenant Kusanagi is reported to have disappeared in the last 10 hours. She was in possession of around 7 millions galactical dollars. She had recently received a donation of 20.000.000$ from unknown members of Kusari Trade Companies, for unknown purposes.
More: Seems like she had met the mysterious "John D." a few hours before on Battelship Nagumo. Everybody here in Ruiz seems to know something about this John D. But nobody's willing to talk about him.

Of course Chemney knew somehing about "John D."
And that meant nothing good...
"John D." was age 32. An increasingly good fighter at the time he entered the service, and most of all a first class diplomat after 3 years working for secret Liberty External Ops. Later veteran from the STARPOL undercover operations in the Omicrons. Had inflitrated the outcast faction on Ruiz the year before. Become one of the closest associates of "Dong Bin", one of the best outcast fighters and smugglers ever. Then "John D." had betrayed the STARPOL and got 1.000.000.000$ from Dong Bin's friends on Malta. With this money John D. had founded a group of pirates called: THE GHOST, operating in Corsair and Outcast sectors, and sometimes even daring to try incursions far into the House Systems.
The story of John D. and his lieutenants was supposed to have ended in an embuscade in Omega 7, 3 months before, but there had never been concret evidence of John D.'s death. Now there was nearly concrete evidence of John D.'s come back.
Forcing or persuading House agents to betrayal was John D.'s favourite method.
G.I. Chemney called his secretary through the internal Com.
"Laurie? What do we have about Lt Kusanagi from the Kusari Secret Service? - Mh... Wait a second, sir... Not much, sir. Nothing except last month's Liberty Ambassy Report.
- Saying? - That she - this is a femal agent, sir...
- I know damn well she is. Saying? - That she was collecting private funds from Kusari Companies to finance the construction of a Capital Ship for unknown purposes.
- This is bad news. - Pardon, sir?
- Thanks, Laurie. Would you please tell officers Spike and Mani to come back to NY as soon as possible? - Of course, sir.
- Thanks Laurie. And send me all additional information you might find about Lt Kusanagi's disparition."
G.I. Chemney closed the internal Com for ten minutes and opened an old reserve whisky - a gift of infiltrated STARPOL agents on Arranmore, Dublin - and put some ice in.
When he got his drink ready he said: "Let's drink to John D.'s diplomatic skills."
