I've been browsing lancersreactor and found 2 interesting things there:
88 Flak stuff Wrote:-- Super-odd flight physics, where 360 degree banking has been added into your everyday left and right turning. This means that pulling a hard right turn and hitting strafe left will cause you to strafe 'up'. Once you master this, strafing in any direction becomes a piece of cake, and PvP is no longer the bland strafing in circles it normally was.
This would add a whole new dimension to PvP... It would be cool to pilot fighters as "real" space fighters instead of jets... 88 flak interesting stuff
I also found something called freelancer companion. I haven't tested it yet as im not at home. But once i reach home i'll give it a look and post about it. But so far it looks like an advanced nav computer which can calculate routes using known JH too, etc...
If the creators of such mods agree, it would be cool to integrate those functionality into the mod. The fighter thing will allow us to do more spectacular PvP, and the nav map thingie will make trading less boring...

Freelancer Companion is a stand-alone semi-cheating utility, much like Datastorm. Revealing all trading secrets at once. Well then, I'd only mention that I downloaded this software even before 4.80 was released, and spent some time checking for uber-profitable trade routes. Found a few, removed :P
It can't be built in into the mod, of course.
As for Flak, yes, I've read about this mod too, but right now I'm reluctant to use any special features of this mod in Discovery. For a number of reasons, first of all because consequences of any additions from other mods might be totally unexpected - just like battleship spinning removal won't work for Discovery, but works for other mods. Freelancer has some... basics that Discovery isn't intended to change.
I think it would be cool to have a "new and improved" Nav map that incorporates discovered jump holes in calculating a best route. I personally find it frustrating that I cannot plot a path from any sector that does not have a jump gate. Is this really cheating if you discover the jump hole first? The navmap will calculate your route now thru any system with jump gates even if you have never visited that system, that seems more like cheating to me.
BabyDoc: Large Train
DragonKnight: Liberty Assault Frigate
Shadowen: Albatross Frigate
[MiD]The_Enforcer[Ace]: Rheinland bomber
[DJC]The_Kraken: Heugenot Cruiser
It calculates routes through systems you haven't bee in because it is supposed that the nav computer asks the JG information about other jumpgates and his destinations. So the nav systems knows where all JG are located and where they lead. that way it can calculate routes through JG'ed systems... And thats the reason it cannot use JH. Unless the nav comp is reprogrammed to use info gathered from exploration of jump holes..
But as the companion seems to be stand alone and not an imporvement of the nav computer, then we can rule it out. Although, making the nav computer a bit better is a good idea...
Now, being able to thrust up, down, left or right would be cool. Like "real" fighters equipped with an array of thrusters, like real current spaceship have. Because current FL ships behave more like an aerodynamics-based plane than a space ship in vacuum...

umm... I've read about that thing (Flak 88) before, sounds interresting.. it can be done in a limited amount here too, I think it would just need stronger thrust (strafe power) to the strafing directions (I may be wrong). I think it's impossible here because any longer hold on a strafe button reduces your speed because the strafe thrusters aren't so strong as the main one. Anyway, you have strafe in all directions in this version... assign the keys.
Rolling would be something I'd like to have. :)
Like the NPCs do, know what I mean?
If the stars should appear one night in a thousand years, how would men believe and adore and preserve for many generations the remembrance of the city of God? - from 'Nightfall' by I. I know. I have the keys assigned. But i was thinking on some more powerful thrust for L, R U and D, instead of just maneuvering thrusters.
I think the same about roll. That would be cool.

I thought that's what you meant, seen it somewhere, it had the same power of thrust as the main thruster in all directions.. too unrealistic imo, I think this requires more skill in a way...
