This thread is to provide some charts of general information for easy access, reference, and use. A brief explanation will be attached to each.
Feedback, suggestions, and corrections may be posted here.
Nota bene: this thread is not meant to dictate to people on how to roleplay, just provide factual information on what is what.
"You see what your knowledge tells you you're seeing. ... how, what you think the universe is, and how you react to that in everything you do, depends on what you know. And when that knowledge changes, for you, the universe changes. And that is as true for the whole of society as that is for the individual. We all are what we know, today. What we knew yesterday, was different; and so were we."
- James Burke, The Day the Universe Changed (1985)
This is an official list of alternate system names, which may be helpful considering all of the different inRP names as well as the changes that came about in 4.88. Very few system removal plans are being considered in the future, so not much (if anything at all) will change from here.
If a system is not here, then it is generally not known by any other name. If anything is missing that should be here, or is incorrect, please let us know.
To preserve existing roleplay (comms/stories/etc.) use of these system names, many of the guard/excess systems that no longer exist in-game are reused in this list. This is meant to help ease the cost of retcons and the like. Some of these are only proposed or recommended alternate names, such as the Junkers referring to Kansas as Humboldt, sometimes.
The only totally retconned systems are (this list may be missing a system or two) Anjou, Artois, Berry, Braunschweig, Corse, Dusseldorf, Faroe, Franche-Comte, Fukuoka, Halle, Illinois, New Anglia, New Cambria, Omega-15, Omicron-81, Omicron-82, Omicron-96, Quebec, Savoie, Tau-63, and Tau-65.
Sorted by Sidereal Name, then alphabetical by Official Name after the ΤΩΣO systems.
A lot of research turned up the following on corporate ownership. This may help those wishing to roleplay various company ties or write an information page for a new faction. Most corporations are presently not on here because there is little or no information regarding stock ownership to be found.
There's frequent use of terms such as allied, friendly, neutral, unfriendly, hostile, and sometimes others such as "at war". Some factions have fun with creating unique terms, like piracy factions referring to anyone not an ally, friend, or arch enemy as "potential victims" or something like that. Or you can have Hogosha and Junkers each labeling the other as scum, and there are plenty of others, which is fun to have.
This part of the post only exists to help establish a bit more consistency amongst the general terminology. The vocabulary used for each rephack decimal is different (hence brethren and belligerent instead of a second allied and hostile) and examples are provided for generic Liberty Navy diplomacy (as of 4.88) since most people are at least somewhat familiar with them.
Anything between (or beyond, in the case of +1.0 and -1.0) the numbers is associated with the one next closest to zero, with the exception of -.6 which is the tipping point for NPCs to engage "red is dead" mode.
