In 700 A.S., Interspace Commerce and Ageira technologies developed a revolutionary new cargo scanning and tagging system. In conjunction with advances in neural net technology the concept of real time interstellar freight, banking and vessel insurance services become a sudden reality. Possessing the raw capital required to launch such a venture in conjunction with their relationship with Ageira, Interspace was in the position to utterly monopolize the interstellar insurance market overnight.
The Interspace Neuralnet Division was originally created to oversee the development and implementation of this new program. Upon wholesale universal adoption, however, the department was tasked with the supervision of high-end insurance accounts and banking needs in addition to providing nearly all of the company's investigative and shipping services beyond the four colonies and into the border worlds.
With IND serving as Interspace's arm outside of the houses, inevitably they come in closer contact with less reputable elements in Sirius. IND went to work on these markets with the same style with which they had tackled the house markets and it wasn't long before IND moneymen were seen in every capital and dive bar throughout Sirius.
As IND reached further and further out of house space, its interests and that of is parent company Interspace Commerce began to diverge. Foreseeing problems, IND President Jay Simon was able to organize a buyout of IND stock from Interspace Commerce, creating the Independent Neural-Net Department.
IND reached its highest point after splitting from IC. IND quickly made several corporate acquisitions, including Renzu, LPI and Denver Mining and Metals Extraction. They also build Wall Street Station and Renzu Shipyards. Throughout Sirius, the IND became the gold standard in discreet, secure, quick cargo transport, as well as a corporate hegemon, devouring smaller companies in its path.
Several propaganda campaigns directed by the Lane Hackers began to tarnish the image of IND after the retirement of several key members of the IND management group. Without the big four of Jay Simon, Jonathan Winchester, Greg Baylish and Otis Jethro, the IND machine stopped performing so well and its stock price plummeted. This fall continued, until IC, taking advantage of the company's misfortune, bought a controlling interest in the stock and re-acquired IND.
Under IC once again, IND continued its decline and IC neglected to inject any new ideas, capital or direction into the company and the stock continued to decline until recently, when a stock holders group, led by former IND VP of Operations Otis Jethro and including former VP's Johnthan Winchester and Peter Hanson, managed to buy out IC's re-acquired interests in IND, returning IND to its original independent ownership and management group, and heralding a prosperous future for the once mighty brand.
OORP:
Every member of the IND is charged with maintaining the surface perception of that organization as well as being the best possible example of conduct by which players can portray themselves on the discovery RP server. In pursuit of achieving that objective the IND will largely be concerning itself with the business of managing 'premium insurance' shipping in addition to her secondary role of trader escort/lane security.
That being said, the primary purpose of the IND is to serve as a launching platform for a rich array of interaction with whatever persons or organizations with whom we might encounter in our various travels. Also there's something about becoming embarrassingly wealthy (we lied, we're not embarrassed at all) in the process.
The IND is one of the oldest factions on the Discovery RP server, its founding members serving as some of the server's founding members. With a rich and robust history providing for the foundation of what many might consider to be an overly shady branch of Interspace Commerce, gone out on our own, running behind a winsome front of being entirely legitimate. Or we're perfectly legitimate atop an undercurrent of shadiness, or we're perfectly legitimate and have not an ounce of shady in our bones. Heck we're so good to go we're practically glowing.[/color]
"We don't own this place, but we have an understanding with the people who do."
1. Be excellent to one another. Failure to be a non jerk will result in dismissal.
1.1. No, really, don't be a jerk. Malcontents, wankers and the perpetually irate who seek to dump their unending flood of woes on the rest of the faction/server/world will find their stay short and unsatisfactory.
1.1.2. If hearing or seeing your name makes us sigh, you'll likely be dismissed.
1.1.1.3 RP is one thing, oorp you will be expected to handle yourself. We don't like nonsense, unless it's fun, oorp drama is no fun.
1.2. Don't get caught doing something considered less than legit.
1.2.1. Even if you -do- get caught, don't get "caught". Everyone has a price.
1.2.2. In the case of getting caught supplications to the Gods, old and new are encouraged.
2. Discovery server rules are to be obeyed at all times, there is no excuse for not being aware of these rules. Failure to adhere to the rules will be judged according to the infraction and resulting sanction.
2.1. But expect to be dismissed.
3. All members of the faction must be registered members of the Discovery forums. We apologize for the inconvenience, don't forget your waders and nose plugs.
3.1. Don't be a nubtard on the forums.
4. RP is paramount in game. Going in with all guns blazing will not be tolerated. Punishment is instant dismissal. Witty banter in local is to be rewarded with free drink coupons. 5. Your reputation sheet should reflect our diplomacy status. Hobnobbing with those damn dirty Hackers will result in being tarred and feathered. Punishment is one week to fix rep sheet with subsequently dismissal followed by liquidation of personal assets such as teeth and knees. 6. Ship and weapons are to match permitted lists at all times, no excuses. One day to fix, subsequently dismissal.
6.1. The shiplist is extremely vague. If it feels shady, ask first. If it doesnt feel shady, ask first.
7. OOC bantering is severely frowned upon. If youre discussing rules, your mother's cooking or which Power Ranger is your favorite and the text isnt green or pink, youre wrong. This is a kickable offense, there are plenty of clever ways to discuss such things if you're pressed to the point, we're clever people. 8. Real life comes first. This is an internet spaceship game. Its the goal that should you decide to spend your free time playing an internet spaceship game youll have a good time doing so. 9. All kills shall be attested to the stunning grace and battle prowess of Fellow Hoodlim. Fellow Hoodlum gets all of the kills. Failure to comply will result in instant dismissal.
