So I was looking at a planet, and then remembered that we now have atmospheric entry points, and that got me thinking...

Why not, instead of making high-profile space stations, why not just make planetary bases?

My idea is that in every major planet that can or 'could' theoretically accommodate people, there would be an atmospheric entry point where only snubs and freighters can come in. Planets will have their own planetary hazards or not.

There will be an FLHook command called /planetbase, where it works very similarly to /base:

> to make a planet outpost, you must:
- have a freighter with at least 400 units, carrying the following:
+ 1 Planet Outpost Construction Set (200 Cargo units)
+ 100 Crew Members
+ 25 Food Rations
+ 25 Oxygen
+ 25 Consumer Goods
+ 25 Water
- go into the planet through the Atmospheric Entry Point, then choose a spot anywhere within 25k of the Atmospheric Exit Point
- type /planetbase colonise; all of these commodities save the crew members will be consumed, and instead of a station, out comes a 'beacon' that iRP guides ship to the landing pad; this beacon is VERY visible, and can be spotted even from Far/150K+
- once it's established, it will start at 20% life, and begin deteriorating, so you'd better get moving!

> maintaining a planetary outpost:
- if not resupplied with the following commodities, its life will slowly deteriorate at a rate of 1% per hour, and 1 Crew Member per hour:
+ Food Rations / Synth Paste / (Luxury Food, Kyushu Rice, Synth Gel, Gaian Wildlife)
+ Oxygen / (Fertilizers)
+ Consumer Goods / (Luxury Consumer Goods)
+ (Water)
+ Planetary Outpost Maintenance Equipment
- basic types except water are consumed at 1 unit per Crew Member present per hour, while (advanced types) are consumed at 1 unit per Crew Member present per 2 hours
- if there is at least 1 of every unit for every Crew Member present, it will stop deteriorating, and slowly restore health at a rate of 0.001% per hour per Crew Member present, to a max of about 10,000 Crew Members present, or 10% per hour
- ex: 500 Crew Members present will consume 500 food, oxygen, consumer goods, water, and POMEs per hour, but will also restore about 0.5% per hour

> unless we're able to for a given planet, we won't be using regular planet landing and bar animations, but will instead use a 'battleship'-type base

> modules will still exist, but because it's a planet base and only the beacon is there, it's not immediately evident

> to destroy a planetary outpost, you need to:
- have a freighter with at least 400 units, carrying the following:
+ 100 Marines / Royal Marines
+ 25 Military Vehicles
+ 25 munitions
+ 25 light arms
+ 25 side arms
+ 25 Food Rations
+ 25 Oxygen
+ 25 Consumer Goods
+ 25 Water
- pick a point within 5k of the beacon of the base you want to destroy, and type /planetbase invasion; this will consume all of the commodities, and creates another beacon for which you and your allies can land in, called an invasion outpost; you can potentially have multiple invasion outposts active at one time
- to keep an invasion outpost active, you'll need to constantly supply it with the following commodities (beside them their respective consumption rates per hour), or else it becomes inactive and will deteriorate at a rate of 10% per hour, and 10 personnel per hour:
+ Military Vehicles (1 per 5 personnel present per hour)
+ munitions (1 per 1 personnel present per hour)
+ light arms (1 per 1 personnel present per hour)
+ side arms (1 per 1 personnel present per hour)
+ Food Rations (1 per 1 personnel present per hour)
+ Oxygen (1 per 1 personnel present per hour)
+ Consumer Goods (1 per 1 personnel present per hour)
+ Water (1 per 1 personnel present per hour)
- for every personnel on-site, the planetary outpost's life will be reduced by 0.01%, or a max of 1,000 personnel dealing 10% per hour
- once the planetary outpost is destroyed, the invasion outpost immediately destroys itself once the last ship inside has undocked

One thing which should definitely be made better at planet bases in comparison to PoBs is that they're semi-inRP. What you produce on a PoB (eg cloaking devices) can be sold in ooRP ways. Unfortunately, same applies to the Scientific Datas in Spazzy's events. Planet Bases being used 100% only for RP purposes would be great. So no creation of any equipment.

What I especially like is that you freighters actually get a purpose, and that one has to bring marines down there in order to destroy it.

Actually, I think having equipment being produced on PoPO's can still work. Here's how:

1. turn ALL Docking Rings into Atmospheric Entry Points
2. taking an example from Barrier Gate Station, make the planet be divided into two bases: one for capitals and transports via mooring fixtures, and the other via entering docking ring, then landing in the 'capital city's beacon'
3. take away ALL contraband prices from mooring fixture bases or MFBs, and then put them all instead in docking ring bases or DRBs (this means you can't profit from hauling contraband in transports: you'll have to bring/hire the services of a freighter to deposit them for you)

and finally

4. make snubcraft-based equipment for fighters and freighters be only produced in PoPO's, while PoB's produce transport- and capital-ship-based equipment

I'm a firm believe in the term "Form Follows Function". Rather than 'forcing' RP due to some arbitrary rule that you HAVE to RP only in PoPOs, I instead wish to give them a proper purpose that makes sense in both gameplay- and story-wise.
