Core is relevant now?
No matter, nothing can stand before the full power of a zoner dramabeam.

I think you'll find they can. Anyway, all the big establishment Zoner factions died, and now are making a comeback. There's a lot more RP in the independent worlds than their previously was. Sirius is a lot deeper into full "nomad war" conditions at this point, and it's showing by the pervasiveness of infectees. There are also two official nomad factions with different rep, policy and ZOI. Vagrants and K'hara. One has perma-cloaks, the other has jumpdrives (or will get them soon).
You can also get special event ships, disable NPC stations and jumpgates with bombs you can build, build interdiction satellites and visit unknown systems. You can even generate jumpholes and get completely unique equipment and VFX. What you do is now way more meaningful.
Interesting, OSI is still official as is TAZ, CoF is still around so seems to me that Zoners are still in a pretty good position.
Apart from that everything seems much more interesting, any more info available on all those cool event style things or is this to do with the weekend events?

There are weekend events, running events, and one-day events. Official faction events are now accessible by indies and can be influenced by anyone on the server in that way. Patching and updates are much more transparent, and community content is valued a lot more. A lot of official factions have their own unique commodities (Order has Kemwer muntions, the Archangel Fighters Club has Exotic Entertainers), which fill RP roles. The SRP system is a lot more advanced (I have a freelancer Unknown IFF'd Marlin with AI stem guns for example), AI have bases distributed throughout a rebalanced omicron layout, whilst Core has bases spread around the Omegas and Omicrons more. Order systems were de-guarded which was very helpful and all houses were re-layout-ed for the better. There's no war between Rheinland and Liberty anymore - they made peace, however the Red Hessians are dangerously close to victory in Rheinland are are being resisted by a hardline imperial resurgence. The Kusari Civil War is still ongoing and the Imperials have captured Kyushu. BD is presently a tad dead. Bretonia is still holding the line but the Gauls are now in Manchester and are dangerously close to outflanking them. The Colonials have recaptured their home system deep in the taus.
You can hypothetically get anything you want within reason if you do enough work for it and it won't destroy balance.
Also, fighters, their loadouts and stats, and even various kinds of equipment were completely redone (major improvements).
Furthermore it is more advantageous to be an OFL than an Unofficial due to refinements in the perk system.
You can collect scientific data used to create superweapons through admin spawned P-V-E events.
Factions determine long, brawling fights.
The Hellfire Legion now has their own CR style Mini-house called the Commonwealth of Liberty.
There's a greek inspired core splinter group called Auxesia running around being cool.
There's a lot more nomad aligned factions, showing the state of infection.
Liberty had a short civil war with the LSF and an LN splitter group fighting LN and 5th fleet over fears of internal infection.
Rheinland is actively invading the Omicrons.
Tensions are heating up in the sigmas and the 80 years war might reset.
Outcast/Corsair raids are now viable.
Far more tactical equipment and play options.
Unlawful Mining and Econ, currently only on certain factions, due to be expanded.
Buffs for factions which have been overlooked. Factions are now more distinct from each other (for example, Rheinland unlawfuls that were all too same-y).
Loads of systems were cut and assets redistributed, but not in any way that physically makes Disco feel smaller - if anything it's got more content - it's just got less bad content.
And the Titan system is under testing. Read, super-capitals used for events or for the use of factions who have done lots of work for them.
RP decisions OFL make have gameplay (econ, PVP, event, PvE, temporary jump holes/Incursions, profit-for-kill event) buffs for indies and every other player.
Decisions of indie individuals up to OFLs all have more staying power.
