So essentially this is an idea i've been considering for a wee while, and after a talking in the good ol shout-box, I think its about time to start making some actual progress on it.
My initial idea was this:
-Each night at server restart, I'd farm codes as usual, playing each ship as a recon drone that is scouring the deepest and deadliest parts of space for various wrecks that contain salvageable equipment, which is then brought back to where-ever I've set up my base of operations.
-Then I'd do some arpee's around fixing up what I can, taking apart and using for parts what I can't.
-The working equipment would then be sold off
-Weapons would be made from plans designs lost/stolen/acquired from various, factions, for example:
"DiamondBack being a Liberty Naval product, in an attempt to miniaturize the LSC FWG, but the designs were lost with the Harmony incident or something"
"like the Hiemdalls look like red Magma Hammers... which were made during the Rhienland war by the Hessians to try to match Liberty firepower
-Of course, in develeoping a story behind each weapon, any relevant faction would be contacted.
Now these idea's aren't necessarily exclusive, and I quite like Inferno's idea, but I thought I'd get some feedback from the Community, see what you guys think and if you'd be interested in a inrp weapons vendor. I've also been considering using a PoB to store and sell these codes to visitors. Building off the 1st idea, this could also be extended to other types of equipment; cloaks, jumpdrives etc, or even just standard faction guns. So yeah, some (constructive) advice and ideas would be appreciated.
Of course, if I did do this, I'd still be open to oorp deals too, so no fear of missing out if I end up picking a faction that hates yours

there's only one problem with that..it's quite boring having to stay near a station instant docking point ready to press the docking button if someone will try and make a play for your loot which at ~1bil or so there will be quite a line for that
if you try to sell it via pobs there will be no rp possible with that.. peoples will just buy it when your not logged
also if you do the above you will have to watch out for griefers who will try to blow your small pob because they will know how much you will lose
so..then what?
probably a remote location for the pob and use the jd mk3 with a bustard to sell those, something to take notice if you take this route.. you will have to pick a home system that will have fuel selling quite cheap , yet being able to reach far enough(~4 systems near it)
You do raise some good points, I was worried about griefer's , and wasn't considering keeping it all on a single ship in space, which is what initially led me to think of making a PoB (on top of my curiosity to managing my own one, instead of a faction-shared one). I think it would be possible to avoid griefer's poofing the base out of a desire to troll because either they do it properly and make an annoucemnt, where I would then have 8+ hours to evacuate the station, or they don't make an announcement, and then they've broken the rules so the base should be restored, right?
However that doesn't stop people buying straight from the base, but I could get around that by only setting the base to buy codes, and then do transfers in-person, after some rp.

This plan would work fine I believe, and if you were to do it under the correct ID and in the right location, will probably be safe from grievers in any case.
One thing you can do is retail by proxy. Keep an inventory of your stock and keep your primary character docked at a station. With a second character negociate with buyers and conduct RP then bring in the primary for the exchange.
