Or you could join a trading faction. Say Gateway and they will set you up and give you some trade routes to do and you never have to pay them back (except for setting up new recruits).
Seems that nobody answered your question with certainty where to buy the Armored Transport. It can be bought at California Minor.
Why don't you browse the discovery wiki? The link is in my sig. It gives you an opportunity to do some windows shopping and planning ahead, meaning ship stats etc.
Most people use the silver mining. To make it more safe for you is to ask someone loitering above Manhattan to come and cover your back against the NPCs. Chances are that at least one of them is interested since you are willing to work your way to riches instead of "can I have 1 million?". I've helped guys out this way it's fun to give dire warnings in RP about the how dangerous these fields are for civilians...
One good and pretty safe route is to take prisoners from that battleship in Colorado (I can't remember the name) to Sugarland, Texas. But the ultimately the safest and most profitable routes for beginners (say with a transport) is going between Leeds and New York.
I've been playing for a couple of weeks now, off and on and this was a good thread for info. I've been doing lots of police missions and enjoying the battles but I am starting to feel like I need to spread my wings and start thinking about factions and a proper role in the game.
I need to shift that damn liberty police rep too.....
I have a okayish heavy fighter and would be willing to do trade escorts if anyone is out there? Is there a good place to hang out to pick up traders?
Cool - thanks, I am still finding my way around the forums so sorry if this is a dumb question, but where is the best place to view the recruiting factions? My bro has started playing too so there's a couple of us that play in the evenings GMT time....

Actually, you never have to pay us back for anything. Ever.
Setup cash for new recruits is payed for entirely by the Board of Directors, who make monthly contributions and have a say in the direction of the company.
We'd be happy to have you join, and are all willing to help you learn the ways of the server and all that, I'm sure.
Yeah, I've only been here for a month or two, but it definitely feels like joining factions accelerates you out of newbie status and into the everyday space schmuck category.
