Hello! It's been years since I last played this awesome mod, and I can't say enough how incredible it is that it's still going strong.
I had to stop playing for a while due to starting a family and buying a house and all that real-life crap that gets in the way. But I'm back and would like to get back into things... this time with my son. He's 10 now and is familiar with multiplayer etiquette and I keep a close eye on him. He saw me playing Discovery and is very interested in trying it.
Problem being, I know multiboxing, two computers running from the same network, is not allowed. Or rather, can't mine or trade... which is exactly what I'd like to start him on first as running missions in a noob ship is a fast track to nowhere.
Is there any leeway here? I'd be happy to provide any proof requested that it's actually another human and not just me running two rigs trying to game the mining system. I'd really like to show him the ropes and get him into the community, but being restricted to combat only is a bit of a letdown, and I really don't want to get banned or anything for trying to cheat the system.
Welcome back! From experience, I can say that can be done. My daughter and I play on Disco... she is more famous or infamous depending on your outlook. Rules are we stick to our own computers and work at keeping our trade and mining play separate. We do not share accounts either.
It could be problematic as I don't know many of her ships, and she doesn't know many of mine.
We change names on ones we 'guess right'. This may not be right for your situation with a young son playing as you would probably need to be duly informed.
We join together in RP situations other than mining and trading interaction such as if we are in the same faction, opposing factions or base building/maintenance etc.
Hope this helps.
Cheers!

I assume, knowing the boy the way I do, that he'll hare off on his own once I've shown him the ropes and got him decently set up, but for a little while at least I'd absolutely want to stick with him while trading and mining. But yeah definitely that wouldn't be the only thing we do either together or alone. And we wouldn't be sharing accounts at all.
Cheers! Good to know at least that I probably won't get banned instantly for multiboxing
Since Freelancer is such a small game compared to other more modern games, I'd speculate that using Hash protocols for detecting multiboxing on different IPs on the same local network. So, I would say if there was a small "addition" to Freelancer Discovery upon loading Accounts, Launcher, and the Game itself would be a good start for these protocols.
Welcome back to Discovery.
