You've been on the staff for a long time, so you may be aware that storyline development is a result of ofls getting together with story and system developers, in order to give consensus in a way that is democratic but also doesn't result in infinite drama from subjects such as this one. Even indie players have a means of accessing story development if their actions are consequential enough to impact OFL actions (as seen in the first Core attack on the Delta Freeport, for example).
That's how storyline development has worked for at least the last two years. It's not a perfect system but it's better than every other method ever attempted, as it gives every member a chance to submit RP which gets turned into development through the filter of faction heads, then devs, then head devs for each team. Everyone ultimately gets a shot with filters at each level to remove bias yet to reward player work.
Any change to any game will annoy some people - however, this has the potential to grow the server, not diminish it, by centralising lore. LWB lore is still present and the faction's history will remain cannonic. Nothing is retcons - just changes have occured. It's far more integral than something like Normandie, for instance, which is critical to Gallic history yet doesn't have so much as a ship in the game.
(No, let's not turn this thread into a storyline development best-practice thread).
