Run this when yout start Freelancer, and then experiment with the commands.
There's a decent list of them in the FLHook.ini file.

I heard this before with another player having a problem running Freelancer as a multiplayer in their home.
Myself I have a coupls questions about it.
The Discovery Mod that was downloaded, does it contain enough info for multiplayer on LAN or is it a client to the online server we all play on?
Does all the computers involved need to be running the disk if it's a LAN or is one disk good enough? (Mod or no Mod)
My PC used to be part of a LAN but I never bothered to try it out with FL with or without Disco mod

Edit: I am a slow typer, FLhook it is
The discovery mod has all of the files you need for the server. You just run the FLserver.exe program and the server will just work.
It does not come with FLHook - you don't need that unless you want in game commands like /givecash. If you do want it, you can download it from here: http://forge.the-starport.net/gf/project/flhook/
