"It is the universe's way to stand against force. Just as the diamond resists efforts to crush it, so too does the tenacity and spirit of those who refuse their chains. Old Earth philosophers and leftists foresaw a society that could be, were humans able to better recognize the cornerstone of society - Mutual aid. Under the Sirian Houses and other capitalistic societies, mutual aid is subverted by forcing the worker to compete against her fellow men and women, at the behest of a superior.
No more, says the Gloaming Flotilla and her crews. Existing appropriators of labor bolster their security and tighten their grasp on their captive workers in full knowledge that they have them enchained. There is no better place to begin such a social movement than the Sigma systems, so says the Flotilla.
Like the witch-lights that are its namesake, the Flotilla will strike at the sole thing that a corporation cares for - Their profit margins - And then fade back into the mists. Pursue it too heavily and oppressors risk gathering their fleets together for what might become a second Battle of Yanagi, complete with the systemic downfall of their state afterwards."
"Death to all those that oppose the working people."
- E. Klugmann
SYNOPSIS
The Gloaming Flotilla is a decentralized, loosely affiliated militant force who adhere to varying anarchistic tenets and schools of thought - Predominantly Syndicalism and Communism. Their stated goal is to claim ownership over, or at least the brunt of the resources of, the Sigma systems. The intent is to eventually gain control over local industries such as but not limited to H-Fuel, Cardamine and Stabiline, Alien Organisms, and uranium - with these industries as a backbone, the Flotilla seeks to become a Sigma Free State.
Co-founded by the infamous ideologue Erich Klugmann, the Flotilla proclaims that such a state would be one where workers would own the means of production and extraction, where direct action would take precedence over representative oligarchy; and where all comrades of the Free State would have equitable access to advancing consumer, medical and mechanical technologies.
The radical cassus belli goes even further; open-sourced Stabiline (or Cardamine) to erode and eradicate the Maltese slave trade, and even an interest in the vagarities of hybrid tech. At the time of its inception, the Flotilla is highly reliant upon Freelance and Zoner stations for supply, repair, and refit until such a time as they've one to call their own.
HISTORY
- (To be added)
GOALS
Primary
- The creation of a Sigma Free State as unencumbered by megacorporate and House influence as possible, centered on the habitable and economically viable Sigma worlds.
- The seizure and eventual collective ownership of the various industries touted by the region, including but not limited to H-Fuel, cardamine, stabiline, alien organisms, and uranium.
- In order to secure access to the above, the Flotilla must attempt to force or coerce the means of commodity production out of the hands of denizen factions.
Secondary
- Establishment of the tools needed to fight a guerilla war both before and during the advent of the hypothetical Free State.
- Cooperation with and agitation of Zoner colonies to more readily stand against intrusion from House influence.
- Construction (or acquisition) of at least one Sigma base and at least one capital ship.
- Development and improvement of technology used, including the development or modification of a line of snubcraft.
Hostile House Police, House Militaries, House Intelligence, Kusari Keiretsu, Rheinland Corporations, Cryer, Outcasts, GMG, Bounty Hunters, Core, Nomads, Wilde/Aoi
SHIPS/TECH
Currently the Flotilla is restricted to cost-efficient civilian and borderworlds ships and weaponry due to its fragile budgetary constraints. Versatile Freighters, Snubcraft, and even heavy craft a la the Spatial or Pelican-class Armored Transport are preferred over transports and bombers.
Should a more stable source of equipment become available, the Flotilla may be able to divert from its present-day habit of lurking and lairing larger ships in the Sigma nebulae to keep them hidden and (somewhat) maintained.
I like this concept a lot. It's very different from the communist bloc of the Hessians/Coalition that we've got going, which is pretty much the only take on socialism around as far as I know. I hope that this ends up taking off!
I'll certainly keep an eye out for you and work with you ingame.

The Unioners are ideologically similar and also not part of the Hessian/Molly/Coalition Bloc.
This is a very fun faction to RP with, however.
