Yes, it is so hard. We do not have the option to switch between different texture files on the fly.

Now that said, I'm more interested in what the complaint with the new cursor actually is?

Just use the old one. Or the swag pack one. Both still work. Just pm me if you need the file. Goes in folder "SCREENS".

This will restore the cursors from the previous patch. Just extract it to your Discovery install's DATA folder.

The changes I make are just purely cosmetic, and shouldn’t effect playability

I try to make them as close to the original but with better quality, sharper better defined etc

Since Discovery has started, there has been a lot of ship model changes, system changes, image changes all improvements to try to keep up to date with the days expectations in trying to make things better for the players, every game since year dot has done that

When I make icons for FL I do it because I want to help to try to do that

You can replace it if you replace the current mouse.ini with a previous one.
