Recently some unfortunate business with the Martinique has raised some need for clarification over Orbital's relationship with our independent franchisees and other various legal agreements that allow ships to fly Orbital colors without being under OS&C authority. To writ, Orbital Spa and Cruise only claims responsibility for our official corporate fleet. Captains of non-OS&C ships, even if they are doing business as an Orbital vessel under license or agreement, assert full authority over their routes and services independent of Curacao. As a result, they have ultimate responsibility for the safety and protection of their crews and ships. This includes the payment of any ransoms or taxes needed to keep ships flying.
Martinique was a special case, and one we do not intend to repeat. If any independent captains wish to be brought closer into the Orbital family, we always welcome such relationships that balance authority and responsibility. We take care of our own. I'll do anything in my power to get our ships home safe, but I don't include everyone with an Orbital logo on their ship in that category. I just wanted to ensure that all captains are aware of exactly where they stand.
And to any pirates who intercept this thinking about sticking up the indie liners, you'll likely find the franchisees not worth your time if not backed by the corporation's purse strings. And if you're thinking about targeting OS&C assets, know that we now fly much more than just liners. I recommend you stick up an ore hauler instead. More profit and less mess for you.
