Hello,
My name is kokek and i started here a week/2 tops here and having a blast so far.
I played freelancer vanilla back in the day when it was fresh and new for few years, had my own clan and server for short time. Im amaized that there are so many people still playind and expanding the world with mods like discovery and its like a brand new game but in different clothes feeling which is making me feel all warm and fuzzy.
Im 35 yrs old and need to learn all the RP rules and stuff about it and so far found LOADS of helpfull people and also quite a lot of ******* like everywhere.
So far planing to go mining and trading all the way untill i get enough expirience and money to go all out on some big boys and try some end game stuff in some time when i learn all there is to know.
I would suggest just getting a feel for the game and not trying to race for the very expensive caps. That is a mistake new players make and they burn out as soon as they have them.
My suggesting is just trying to find a newbie friendly faction and learn the ropes. Also, fighter class ships are much more useful in this game
The large caps arent typically better.

Welcome aboard, Kokek. Megaera gives some good advice. Get a feel for the game and please, READ THE RULES. There are plenty of groups looking for good people.

Hey thanks for the wellcome. Fighers you say ha? Any guide or short list of recomended fighters to start in? they all kinda seem weak compared to gunships and cruisers in just plain numbers .
Fighters seem weak compared to gunships and the like because fighters are much more nimble and maneuverable.
They're also the perfect place to start to get comfortable with the game.
Getting a capital ship right off the bat is a great way to burn out quickly as Megaera said.
Heck, some factions don't even have capital ships, the biggest things they have being transports and gunboats.
But that's fine because Capital ships have a huge learning curve to be any good at them.
Turret steering is the only way to use them effectively, and trust me, it's not the easiest thing.
Just take your time and have fun!
No need to rush into anything and spoil your fun.

Pirates are part of game, especialy in most active sectors.
You can only choose to be in less active sectors to not encounter them all the time.
Last time i played, Galia was preaty Pirates free.
Also, know your map and space where where you trade real good, think like smuggler and pirate at same time:
"If i am Pirate, where wuld i wait and where wuld be best place to pirate me?"
"Hmm,what wuld be best rute to avoid that nasty choke point, where cops or pirates probably wait me?"
It is a game or freedom to do things any way you imagine it.
Also, Pirates are players to,they can be reasonabe, they can be talk to,you can haggle with them, some of them like that if you do good Role play of trader in distres, and sometimes is is more effective to pay them and finish your run then quickly go to another, instead to find your way araund and waste time.
Most pirates ,when you pay them once, will just let you go to pass few more times trough their turf for free.
