"This is the Survey Log of Expeditionary Wing Unit Erodios on the journey through the southern Gallic Sector. Today I have arrived in Languedoc, first destination on my list of systems to gather survey data for knowledge keeping purposes for the Technocracy."
"Languedoc is a rather large-sized unary star system with a Class G (Medium White) Star which is orbited by seven celestial bodies."
Connections:
Jumpgate to Tau-23 (G6)
Jumpgate to Dauphine (F2)
Orkney Jumphole (F7; Caution: Languedoc Mine Field, Safe Corridor: Yes)
Provence Jumphole and Tau-44 Jumphole (C4, inside a nebula)
The System has a Trade Lane Network.
Inhabited Planets:
"Planet Quillan is the only inhabited Planet. A medium-sized terrestrial world with large deposits of easily accessible metals. Temperatures range from -34° to 20° and Population marks 200 million. The planet has several mining colonies and is currently owned by the Enclave. Enclave Battlegroups are orbiting the Planet, fortifying the position."
Ressources:
Planet Quillan (Copper Deposits, owned by the Enclave)
Planet Ales (Desert world with copper deposits on the planetside)
Aveyron Nebula – Molybdenum and Iron Ore
Bedarieux Planetoid – Ore deposits were used for the construction of the local Mine Field
Agde Planetoid – The ring system could contain ressources, no further data available
Anomalies / Points of Interest / Events:
"The Cerbere gas dwarf atmosphere couldn't be surveyed yet, due to its composition of hazardous acids which are dangerous to most current research equipment. The planet could maybe house ressources or some anomalies."
"Planet Ales is a medium-sized desert world with one small moon. The planet itself has copper deposits but lacks water and oxygen making it unhospitable for organic life. Temperatures range from -41° to 30°. Possible terraforming candidate or automated mining platforms could be placed."
"As I ventured through the system I picked up several stray signals of shipwrecks and debris floating around indicating signs of former battles in the system. Languedoc was mostly a battlefield during both Gallic Wars, where Council forces and their allies fought against the former Gallic Royal Navy. Debris Fields can be found around from destroyed installations such as the Remoulins Wreck (F4) a former GMS base and the Montpellier Debris Field (F6) which are remnants of base construction projects, aswell as mine field clearing."
"Most recent signals are from battles by Confederal Forces against the Imperial Kusari Navy, as the Restored Kusari Empire declared war on them recently. At the Nimes Station (E5), which is damaged and its docking facilites are offline the wreck of the Battleship Pinot, aswell as larger sized Kusarian vessels such as their battlecruiser can be found."
Asteroid Fields / Nebulae:
"Languedoc has three asteroid fields and one nebula. With exception of the Averyon Nebula and its asteroid field the other fields are merely hideout places for some considered unlawful factions and maybe have hidden installations and show no signs of significant ressources."
Known Stations:
Nimes Station (Former Confederacy Oupost, docking facilites offline; E5)
Lodeve Space Port (GMS Station, formerly an abandoned station which is now used for GMS mining and cleanup operations; F/G 4/5)
Factions Present:
Gallic Metal Service
Gallic Royal Enclave
Maquis
Gallic Brigands
Confederal Gendarmerie
Confederal Gallic Defense Forces
Kusari Naval Forces
"After travelling through the jumphole in the Aveyron Nebula, I find myself inside a large deep blue nebula with freezing temperatures, only little sunlight penetrates through the thick composed cloud. Provence is next on my list for survey. The system lies remotely in the west of Gallia and is mostly used as a Resort Place."
"The Provence System is a binary star system which primary is a Class A (Medium Blue Green) Star, which is orbited by five celestial objects. The secondary is a Class B (Medium Blue) Star far outside the main system."
Connections:
Jumpgate to Ill-de-France (C2)
Jumphole to Ill-de-France (B2; inside a nebula which affects scanners.)
Jumphole to Languedoc (G5; inside the Mer Mediterainee, nearby Planet Nice)
The System has no Trade Lane Network.
Inhabited Planets:
"Planet Marseille is the only inhabited planet, owned by the Confederal Gendarmerie. A medium-sized oceanic world, with temperatures ranging from -12° to 41° and population marks 1.5 billion. It is the capital world of the Minarchy, one of the three constituent states of the Gallic Confederacy. The world is seen as a resort world with only few archipelagos, most structures are sea platforms for habitats. The whole theme of Provence shows the face of the stratified elitist society of Gallia, with only the wealthy and noble enjoying the luxuries and best of the best. This theme hasn't changed much with the rise of the Confederacy. The planet offers a mild climate, has a thick atmosphere and deep oceans with an immensly complex hydrologic cycle. The ocean life is abundant, offering numerous amounts of species that can't be found elsewhere in both Gallia and Sirius."
Ressources:
Camargue Dust Field (Has small rocks and compacted dust filled with rare minerals and metals. GMS operates a mining facility inside the field)
Luberon Asteroid Field - Miniscule amounts of Rhodium detected.
Planet Avignon - Traces of several exotic gases
Anomalies / Points of Interest / Events:
"Planet Avignon, a large-sized gas giant also called the Aquamarine Jewel by Gallics has a gravitational well that influences all other stellar objects nearby, causing ripples in the still waters on Marseille and affecting the shape of the Mer Mediterainee to name some examples."
"At the Cannes Resort Station I heard rumors about an abandoned hideout deep inside the Esterel Nebula."
"In the orbit of Planet Marseille are several shipwrecks to be found aswell as one destroyed Prison Station and the leftovers of one former Royal Navy Battleship, the Arles. The former flagship of the Provence Defense Fleet that got destroyed by the Council Battleship Oublique. Although considered a pyrrhic victory by the GRN as the Council had to retreat both sides lost their battleships, aswell as multiple fighters and bombers. The nearby Prison Station called Chataeu d'If was intended to be a high-tech prison station housing several council crewman and figureheads and was known for abysmal living standards. In the battle both sides opened heavy barrages on the station. The Council attempted to free the prisoners with marines raiding the prison. The prison is now a derelict, life supports failed, the station has several breaches aswell as leakings and fuel storages burnt down the interior."
"The Monte Carlo Freeport is an independent Station similar working like the many Freeports of Sirius, intentionally built as a retreat place and smuggling hub to hide from the eyes of the former crown. Several goods can be aquired here and one main attraction seems to be the Monte Carlo Grand Prix, as resortgoers love illegal racing besides the so called "Cloudwatching." Aswell as dubious night life activities and illegal goods, most services can be found here like on any other free haven we know from Zoner Freeports from Sirius."
"Planet Nice is a medium-sized terrestrial world with unique fascinating characteristics. It is a planet of extremes. Temperatures range from -25° to 152° with the troposphere having quite hospitable temperatures. The whole planet is endowed by high tectonic activites, supervolcanoes boiling on the planetside with their eruptions and every landmass gets flooded by towering tsunamis. Vast oceans are colored in bioluminiscent algae and protists, offering an impressive lightshow. Nice has three moons: La Gaude, La Trinite and La Turbie. All freezing worlds with thin atmosphere. La Turbie hasn't been explored fully, due to its extreme cold. Nice and La Turbie would be fascinating subjects for research."
Asteroid Fields / Nebulae:
"Provence has three nebulae and three asteroid/dust fields. The Mer Mediterainee is the main nebula nearby and is comprised primarily of methane and ice and the thickness of the cloud absorbs light pretty well. Camargue Dust Field is rich in metals and minerals, but is getting exploited by the GMS."
