The problem is it inconveniences every one on the server and takes too much time. The server has to be down for a while to do this apparently...

For future reference please download Freelancer Account Manager and export your account to file.
Email it to yourself or keep it in a backup drive or flashdrive so you can always recover your account
if anything goes wrong with your installation or PC.
