' Wrote:Spawning NPC's could technically be made to work, there are two major problems however.
1)We dont want any one player to be able to win vs. anything, this would effectively do this.
2)It would cause major server lag, the server just couldnt support with a cap of over 80 players or so. Seeing as our cap is 200 and people want it to be raised yet, I dont think it would work to well.
1. Limit the amount of NPCs that the ship could spawn, I'd say that the average vanilla BS can hold 5-7 fighters at once, and carriers can probably hold double the amount.
2. How much more lag then caused by players doing missions during high pop. hours?
Wouldn't a dockable BS cause a crash if the player lags out or something similar? I mean the players inside would just screw up, and when they log out where do they appear?

Would need a failsafe that sends the player back to the last base he docked on if the player dies or disconnects.
I was originally planning to model a super-ship that was dockable and similar to the barge. But I suck at modeling so that idea failed. Basically, The fail-safe was the last base, and using the ship only as temp docking.
However, I think the NPC idea is much better, and longer overdue. It would make Carriers, so much more useful.
Nice how the thread is going full-circle. Some people need to read back a few pages.
But, the mine idea might work, if done right. But generating them is a no-no. You can't generate fighters can you? Just make it able to hold more than the normal 70.
