OK I found it... I disabled Discovery 4.84, then in My Documents\My Games there was a folder that Discovery had created. or it had changed the folder the vanila game had created. I removed the Freelancer folder (well in this case renamed it) and I could run the Vanilla freelancer again.
' Wrote:I tried De-activating 4.85 with the mod manager.... now Freelancer won't runa t all (yes I have an original CD). uninstalled it, removed the Freelancer directory, and the same thing happened... it got just after the movie in the intro then went back to the desktop.
Nothin in the Event logs either.
I CAN load up 4.84 and play single player that way... but I've not been able to get vanilla Freelancer to run since installing 4.85 (not that that is a bad thing )
Any thoughts?
Often, this is caused by the autosave being incompatible with the current mods enabled. FLMM has an option to remove the autosave, or you can delete it manually from the savegame folder.
The SP campaign is not supported in 4.85, it will not run. Loading a save from the campaign will cause a CTD.
I played a lot of .85 offline in singleplayer when the server was down, just flying around and discovering. But i had a problem, the big ships were stuck in stations. Like the Order Gunboat. I needed to buy a new small ship then. Which was impossible with the Gunboat, because it was the only ship at the base.
"Who is it doing this synthetic type of alpha beta psychedelic funkin'?"
The way to solve your problem with the startup of freelancer is just by deleting the Freelancer folder in My Documents/My Games folder.
It will delete the saves. Usually fixes it up.
EDIT:
Damn, I got Ninja'd.
It is possible to mod vanilla a bit to get Discovery ships in it, but you will need to know exactly what you are doing. I modded my vanilla a bit, but only minor stuff, not equipment/ships.
If you get stuck on bases in Open SP, get Ioncross and move the char to a planet.
